The first ever festival of Stuart History, on 5-6 July 2025, was a great success. The next Stuart Festival is being planned.

After a fantastic Stuart History Festival weekend, we would like to say a big THANK YOU to the 10 speakers and our sponsors @BoWSociety & @orlandmedia. Also to Mike Beddoes, our livestream producer, and festival partners Philippa Lacey-Brewer & Jackson van Uden.

Further to yesterday's Stuart Saturday... I visited the Margaret Clitherow Shrine in the Shambles in York this morning. The shrine also recognises Thomas Thwing, a 17th-century martyr who was executed in October 1680 following the "Popish Plot" fabricated by Titus Oates. I try to come here every time I visit York.

Hear ye! For #StuartSaturday, please share some pretty Stuart or 17th-century things today. We're all down with Covid at my place, so could do with some lovely images and/or music! I'm currently listening to '17th-Century Music for Canto & Basso': youtu.be/8xIk8bQr2_U?si=RKsI… Image: Jan Steen: 'The Sick Woman', 1663-66. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

A massive thank you to @HistoryRage and @GlosHistFest for the opportunity to tell the truth about the Quaker Oats man, do a little promotion for the 1970 film Cromwell, and share a bit of early Quaker history I love so much.
