Fantastic event in Parliament yesterday on the power of women's sport to get our country inspired and active.
Many thanks to the MPs and sport and recreation stakeholders who attended our Parliamentary roundtable yesterday on how we capitalise on another summer of women's sport to get women and girls active.
Particular thanks to our chair @ToniaAntoniazzi and to Olympian Tess Howard
Ed Conway is such a good commentator on the economic picture.
"Nothing like 2022" is his analysis. This is really worth a watch.
Key aspect is that the cost of our borrowing has to be compared to our competitors. In 2022 it rocketed relative to them. This time it's very similar.
🚨How worried should @RachelReevesMP be about rising bond yields?
😨How worried should the rest of us be?
😱And is this a repeat of 2022 (or even worse)?
After all, UK 30yr govt bond yields are now at the HIGHEST level in more than a quarter century.
📽️Here's my 4m explainer 👇
"..from about 480,000 full-time posts under Gordon Brown to 380,000 ... civil service grew to its current size of 513,000 under Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak."
I would prefer fewer civil servants on better wages with money in our communities

Congratulations to @LucyRigby on her appointment as Solicitor General. An excellent communicator with stellar legal credentials.
Replacing @sarahsackman who is in every way a class act. I hope she can make progress with our under pressure courts as she move to the MoJ.
This was an amazing event. Everyone was so impressed with @AlexDaviesJones and her knowledge and commitment to reducing violence against women and girls.
The "open-mic" section after had so many powerful/entertaining/funny contributions from VAWG survivors.
Wonderful event.
Loved spending the night with Croydon Labour last night to talk about the Government’s Mission to halve VAWG 💪
Inspiring to meet so many brilliant activists!

Great to hear from @StuartBradyLab about how our members being rooted in communities + business model aligns perfectly with #LabourGov and how we can create common good together #SeriouslySocialConference
Controversial opinion alert: my @McDonalds porridge on the way to Brentford County Court last week was better than this morning's porridge at @Pret opposite the Royal Courts of Justice.
Both good, but McD's had the edge (think they've improved by using some jumbo oats)
Wednesday's budget set out a marked break with 14 years of economic policy that had produced stagnation
The job now would seem to be to outperform OBR economic projections through policy: trade (EU and globally), skills and planning would seem the key areas

The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 🏉 is a huge opportunity to grow domestic grassroots support for the women’s game in #Northampton & around the country.
I asked the Leader of the House @LucyMPowell about how we can ensure we capitalise fully on our host nation status 👇

Replying to @RachelReevesMP
@RachelReevesMP has just delivered a budget that will invest in the future of our country. Here are some of the things announced today 👇
-Compensation for victims of the infected blood and post office scandals.
-Increasing the minimum wage.
Genuinely very impressed with @RachelReevesMP and her budget speech.
Powerful, clear, reasoned and honest.
Inspires a lot of confidence.

Labour's first budget in government will be delivered tomorrow. It is time to fix our economy, prioritise growth, and delivery for working people.
For me, like many others, Sir Chris Hoy is the embodiment of a humble, friendly, determined and hugely successful sportsperson
A pillar of our sporting and national life
His upbeat response to this news comfirms his role-model status
I literally wish I was more like him
