On Sunday, October 18, 2026, the #LACoFD and @LACoFireMuseum held a Flag Ceremony at FS 127 for our dear friend Randolph ‘Randy’ Mantooth who passed away on July 9, 2026.   Famous for playing Johnny Gage on Emergency!, Randy brought Squad 51 into millions of homes. His television seriespopularized the modern paramedic and EMS systems we rely on today.   Randy was also a fierce advocate for firefighter health and safety, representing both the IAFF and the IAFC, and speaking at safety conferences nationwide.   Randy was a faithful supporter of our Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Museum.   He is greatly missed but his legacy will forever live on in our hearts and in the lifesaving programs he championed. 📸 Doug Morrison, LACoFD Photographer

NEW MCSO Video: Underwater Search and Recovery Team. Watch as the Commander of the MCSO Search and Recovery Team, Inv. Sgt. Jeff Branagan, details what this 14 member team, made up of members of our Police Bureau, do to recover anything in a surrounding body of water that does not belong there. Their work consists of recovering proceeds or evidence of a crime, and unfortunately in some cases, drowning victims. The mission is intense and emotional at times, providing closure for a grieving family. Learn more about the training this team undergoes at least twice monthly and about the various equipment on board the boats utilized to search the waters, everything from a Remote Operated Vehicle to Side Scan Sonar.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11. We reflect on the courage of the first responders, including the 343 firefighters who died that day. We will always remember your sacrifice. #Toronto #911

Twenty-five years later, some moments are impossible to forget. On the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, former President George W. Bush visited FDNY Ladder Company 3 on Thursday—the firehouse whose apparatus was so badly damaged in the collapse of the World Trade Center that it never returned to service. Today, that rig is preserved at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. President Bush spoke with members about the days and years that followed the attacks. The bullhorn speech at Ground Zero. That unforgettable first pitch at Yankee Stadium. And the people who stood together when our city—and our country—needed them most. A quarter-century has passed, but the memories remain. #NeverForget

As part of IHROC 2026, we are developing a new High-Rise Mayday and Near-Miss Initiative. We are looking for firefighters, officers, instructors, and departments who are willing to share a short 10-minute recorded presentation about a high-rise Mayday or near-miss. Brent Brooks

Remembering Officer Daryl R. Pierson Rochester Police Department — Tactical Unit End of Watch: September 3, 2014 Twelve years later, we still say his name. Daryl was 32. An East Rochester kid, a three-sport athlete, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, a National Guardsman, and an eight-year Rochester police officer. Badge 46. Husband to Amy. Father to Christian and Charity. He had just come back from eight months off with a hand injury. Those months let him be home for his infant daughter and walk his son into the first day of school. The next night he was back on the street, doing the work he was known for: taking a dangerous person off Hudson Avenue so someone else’s family could be safe. He was remembered as a steady partner in chaotic moments, a cop who went after illegal guns, and a man who put family first. As one speaker said at his funeral: it was not how he died that made him a hero. It was how he lived. Today we honor a father who never got to watch his children grow up, a partner who never came home, and an officer whose name is still carried on pins, a post office in East Rochester, a blood drive that keeps giving life in his memory, and the work his brothers and sisters still do. Gone, but never forgotten. EOW 9/3/14. #NeverForgotten #EOW #OfficerDown #RPD #DarylPierson #ThinBlueLine – at Fort Drum, NY
