In LA, we use plastic bollards as a purely aesthetic deterrent.
But the rest of the world uses metal bollards and concrete - things that would actually stop a car.
It's time for LA to stop using flimsy plastic and put in things that will actually save lives.

BREAKING: Lauren Meister’s attempt to kill the bike lanes on Fountain has failed! Thank you to everyone who showed up and made public comment. Time for 🚜
🚨LAUREN MEISTER IS TRYING TO KILL FOUNTAIN'S BIKE LANES🚨
THIS MONDAY @meister4weho is trying to remove protected bike lanes from Fountain. The city is about to go out to bid for construction; if she wins it will risk lives and cost $5M!

Why does infrastructure in surrounding cities seem so much nicer than infrastructure in the City of LA?
And even when we do improvements, they're often done in a shoddy way.
It's time for LA to start taking more pride in its work.
“Chevron makes its choice for L.A. mayor
The oil giant is spending $50,000 to reelect Karen Bass — and defeat progressive challenger Nithya Raman.”

TOMORROW at 6pm the West Hollywood City Council will vote on whether to keep the protected bike lanes it has planned for Fountain. Construction is supposed to begin later this year!

Even Twitter knows you’re lying
I ran for mayor because I couldn’t accept the homelessness I saw on our streets. Since then, we’ve reduced homelessness by 11%, cut veteran homelessness by 50%, and brought homicides to a 60-year low.
With the Olympics coming to Los Angeles, we need leadership that delivers. I’m committed to building on this progress so our city is ready—and Angelenos see lasting benefits.

Why does @KarenBassLA say that people who support bike lanes are advocating for Nithya, like it’s a bad thing?
She should look in the mirror and reflect on her failure to keep Angelenos outside of cars safe.
Under @MayorOfLA @KarenBassLA, at LAX:
- People mover debacle with no end in sight
- Highway-like expansion of roads around airport
- No accountability, billions wasted
The Mayor controls the Board of Airport Commissioners and could have stepped in. She has chosen not to.
Make your city safe for cyclists and they will come
“In London cyclists now outnumber cars in the City by 2 to 1. Paris, where they now outnumber motorists across the whole city, is catching up with Europe’s traditional bike capitals, Amsterdam & Copenhagen…In Copenhagen, bikes account for almost half of commuter trips to work/school.” @economist.com economist.com/international/…

No wonder our city is such rough shape…
@KarenBassLA:
- missed 1/3 of Metro board meetings
- missed 1/2 of homeless authority meetings (that she appointed herself to!)
- was out of town during Palisades and Lineage fires

Today’s back to back headlines.
A reminder: this isn’t normal and we don’t have to live like this.
All it takes is the courage to redesign our streets around people instead of cars.
There's a dark pattern in LA and it's costing lives and a lot of money
Someone dies in a crash on a known dangerous street
➡️
City pays out $ and moves to make street safer
➡️
City cancels/reverses safety changes due to pushback
🔁
It's time for LA to put safety over NIMBYism.

"Recent city reports show L.A. resurfacing small streets to avoid multimodal and accessibility mandates. This practice has steered street resources to wealthier neighborhoods."
