One very special aspect of being an academic is seeing younger colleagues graduating with a PhD or MSc.
Being able to help them in their journey to achieve their life goals is such a privilege.
Thank you to my November 2025 graduates at @StrathMathStat @UniStrathclyde !!!

Thank you for having me again! 😊
As part of Maths week we had another visit from @jonriddledevlin @StrathMathStat.
S1 learned about network theory, working on some university level mathematics while some S2 &S4 pupils performed experiments showing how maths is used to model the way infectious diseases spread!
Check out the following blog by postdoc Emma Dolmaire which explains the importance of carbon in marine ecology and discusses algorithms to convert outputs from nitrogen-based ecosystem models into carbon.

Earlier this year Hywel also published a paper about Antiferromagnets: magnets that appear non-magnetic 🧲 This paper uses numerical schemes to understand these important materials, which are likely the future of magnetic recording devices

Ever heard an annoying buzz from electrical wires? This is caused by the wire vibrating and is called magnetostriction. The following paper from PhD student Hywel Normington designs and analyses a numerical scheme for the dynamics of these materials.
