Entrepreneurs have no shortage of opportunities competing for their attention.
Without intention, it’s easy to fill the calendar with activity that creates very little progress.
Before committing to a project, meeting, or opportunity, clarify three things:
What is the purpose?
Why is it important?
What does the ideal outcome look like?
These questions create a clear standard for deciding what deserves time, energy, and resources.
They also make it easier to communicate expectations, involve the right people, and recognize when the result has been achieved.
Intentionality isn’t about doing more.
It’s about making sure what gets done moves the future forward.
Where could greater clarity improve your results today?

Ted Kerr’s boldest entrepreneurial decision came when the future looked least certain.
His wealth management business had endured the collapse of the tech bubble and the global financial crisis. By 2009, Ted was questioning whether he had chosen the wrong business entirely.
Then he made a decision.
Instead of retreating, Ted secured an excellent office in an excellent location—with the potential for a 10-year commitment.
He didn’t know exactly where the money or clients would come from. But he believed in himself, his business, and his future as an entrepreneur.
That commitment helped give the business something every entrepreneur needs during uncertain times:
Staying power.
Ted’s story is a reminder that long-term thinking isn’t simply hoping conditions will improve.
It’s making decisions today that reflect the future you’re committed to creating.

What becomes possible when you give your biggest goals more time?
Short timelines can pressure entrepreneurs to shrink their vision or force progress before the path is clear. The 25-Year Framework creates the space to imagine a much bigger future—without needing to have every answer today.
A longer time horizon doesn’t delay action. It provides greater clarity, reduces pressure, and helps you identify the most meaningful step you can take right now.
When your future is big enough, today’s decisions become easier.
What would you pursue if time were no longer limiting your imagination?

More data doesn’t always lead to better decisions.
As Colin Sanburg explains, entrepreneurs don’t need a three-page report filled with numbers that pull their attention in every direction. They need a focused scorecard built around the metrics that actually reflect success.
The right metrics should:
• Keep the entrepreneur focused
• Show the team what winning looks like
• Create a clear path forward
• Turn financial information into action
A useful scorecard doesn’t measure everything.
It measures the few things that matter most.
If the numbers aren’t helping the team make better decisions, they’re probably not the right numbers.

Entrepreneurship rewards commitment.
When someone is only half in, every challenge becomes a reason to retreat. Decisions get delayed, opportunities are approached cautiously, and energy is divided between creating a bigger future and preserving a familiar past.
Being fully entrepreneurial doesn’t mean taking careless risks.
It means accepting responsibility for creating value, generating opportunities, and transforming uncertainty into progress.
There may not be a guaranteed path.
There may not be a safety net.
But there is the freedom to make decisions, build the right team, and create a future based on ambition rather than limitation.
Entrepreneurship works best when it’s treated as a commitment—not a temporary experiment.
Where would greater commitment create greater progress for you?

Scott Akerley was asking entrepreneurial questions long before he knew what to call them.
By the time he graduated from high school, he had started three businesses and worked six different jobs.
His curiosity eventually helped Scott build a successful group of escrow and title businesses across Southern California.
His leadership was tested when COVID-19 arrived. Because his team had prepared its systems and practiced responding to disruption, they acted quickly—cutting $1 million in expenses without laying off employees and even sharing their PPP process with friendly competitors.
After selling the business, Scott began thinking about his next decade.
Through Strategic Coach, he recognized that his experience, relationships, and collaborations could help him build something new more quickly and with less effort.
Today, Scott is developing a youth leadership and entrepreneurship initiative with 2,000 young people registered—and a vision for creating impact around the world.
His story is a powerful reminder:
People often overestimate what they can accomplish in one year and underestimate what they can create in a decade.
Stay authentic. Dream bigger. Your greatest decade may still be ahead of you.

A longer to-do list doesn’t always mean greater productivity.
The key is knowing which activities create the most value—and protecting your time to focus on them.
Try these three steps:
Identify your top three revenue-generating activities.
Review and refine them every quarter as your business evolves.
Dedicate focused time to them each week, increasing that time whenever possible.
When you prioritize high-impact work and remove lower-value tasks from your plate, you create more space for meaningful progress.
What are the three activities that move your business forward?

One of the biggest threats entrepreneurs face isn’t lack of opportunity.
It’s failing to protect their confidence.
A bad week or unexpected setback can make even a capable entrepreneur question everything—and sometimes consider walking away from a business that still has enormous potential.
As Alec Broadfoot and Program Coach Chad Johnson discuss, confidence needs to be actively protected. That means having trusted people who can offer perspective, encouragement, and a reminder of what’s still possible when circumstances make it difficult to see clearly.
Sometimes the smartest next move isn’t another strategy.
It’s a conversation with someone who helps restore your confidence to keep going.

Strong teams are shaped by what their leaders consistently communicate.
Chris Cornelison learned that lesson after purchasing his grandfather’s pharmacy at 27.
As a former athlete, Chris believed strong leadership meant being forceful. He yelled, criticized, and reacted visibly when something went wrong.
He thought he was communicating high standards.
His team received a different message.
They felt fearful, underappreciated, and unable to perform at their best. Less than two years after taking over the pharmacy, Chris was at risk of losing the family legacy he had hoped to carry forward.
That realization led him to ask:
“What if I'm the problem?”
Chris recognized that the team’s performance couldn’t improve until his communication did.
He began replacing constant criticism with intentional praise—not as empty encouragement, but as a practical way to communicate expectations and reinforce the behaviors that helped the team succeed.
His principle became:
Praise what you want repeated.
When leaders specifically recognize teamwork, creativity, courage, kindness, and effort, they show everyone what matters. Those behaviors become more visible, more valued, and more likely to spread across the organization.
As Chris changed his communication, his team became more focused, collaborative, and confident. The pharmacy grew, expanded, and became best in class.
Great teamwork doesn’t happen simply because talented people share a workplace.
It develops when leaders communicate clearly, recognize meaningful contributions, and help everyone understand how their work supports the team’s success.

Gratitude is more than a positive feeling. It’s a practical way to transform how entrepreneurs respond to difficult situations.
Gratitude doesn’t require ignoring what went wrong. It creates the perspective needed to find something useful within the experience.
A setback can reveal what needs to change.
A mistake can provide an important lesson.
A challenge can strengthen a capability.
And an unexpected disruption can clarify which people and priorities matter most.
Negativity keeps attention fixed on the problem. Gratitude redirects it toward learning, opportunity, and forward movement.
The situation may not change—but the entrepreneur’s ability to create value from it does.
What can you find to appreciate in the challenge you’re facing today?

Jennifer Borislow doesn’t measure success by what she accomplishes alone.
She measures it by the people she helps grow.
Jennifer began her career as a self-employed life insurance professional responsible for building her own practice.
More than 40 years later, Borislow Insurance has grown into an employee benefits firm with over 80 team members.
The transformation came from investing in people, building the right partnerships, and creating a culture where others could succeed.
Strategic Coach gave Jennifer the confidence to expand her boutique practice into a much larger organization. It also gave her a community where she could share ideas, explore new possibilities, and experience leadership without loneliness.
Today, Jennifer’s impact reaches beyond her company. Through the programs her team designs, they help improve the resources available to thousands of employees and their families.
Her advice to entrepreneurs is simple:
“You cannot do anything alone well.”
Surround yourself with great people. Invest in their growth. And measure your success by what you make possible together.

A business can have strong sales, great customers, and plenty of potential—and still fail because it runs out of cash.
As Rachel Lundeen points out, cash flow can be one of the most dangerous blind spots in a growing business.
Revenue on paper doesn’t pay the bills. Timing matters. The money coming in has to support the money going out when it’s needed.
Pay attention to:
• When customers actually pay
• How quickly expenses are growing
• How much runway the business has
• Whether every new sale strengthens or strains cash flow
Cash flow isn’t just a finance issue.
It’s the oxygen of the business—and ignoring it can quietly kill an otherwise successful company.

Last week, entrepreneurs came together with Coach Deirdre Van Nest for a workshop focused on creating greater clarity, freedom, and confidence—both in business and in life.
Through The Lifetime Extender, members expanded their vision of the future and explored how a longer time horizon can inspire bigger goals and more meaningful possibilities.
The Entrepreneurial Time System encouraged them to become more intentional about how they use their time—creating space for rejuvenation, preparation, and their most valuable work.
Using The Strategy Circle, they transformed challenges into actionable strategies by identifying what's working, what isn't, and the next steps needed to move forward.
Thank you to everyone who participated, shared their experiences, and contributed to such a thoughtful and energizing day. We're excited to see how these new insights shape what comes next!

Positive thinking doesn’t mean ignoring what’s wrong.
It means starting with what’s working.
When entrepreneurs recognize their wins, progress, and capabilities, they put themselves in a stronger position to confront challenges honestly.
They can examine a mistake without being defined by it, receive feedback without becoming defensive, and address a weakness without losing confidence in everything they do well.
That’s why we begin every meeting with The Positive Focus exercise.
Acknowledging progress creates the confidence and energy needed to improve what comes next. It turns problems into opportunities for learning rather than evidence of failure.
Start with the positives.
Then look at the negatives from a position of strength.
What recent win gives you confidence to tackle your next challenge?
