Once I helped someone debug a bug they'd been stuck on for days. It went like this:
"I don't need to delete x; it's unrelated"
"Delete x BECAUSE it's unrelated"
"But x doesn't matter"
"Delete x anyway"
[repeat]
Within minutes we found the "unrelated" x that caused the bug.
