I welcome @andyburnham banning the sale of portable barbecues. Now Andy, ban the sale of fireworks outside of organised displays.

Care should put people before profit. Yet around 80% of the UK's largest care home providers are owned or backed by private equity.
It's time to end profiteering in social care. Agree? Add your name ๐ party.coop/campaign/socialcaโฆ

Hi @YvetteCooperMP can we talk about autistic people and people with learning disabilities? Long neglected people whose human rights have been forgotten. So many promises, so little change.
Itโs a real honour to be appointed Health Secretary by Andy Burnham - 27 years after I worked on the first NHS Cancer Plan as a junior health minister.
Iโm looking forward to working urgently to improve maternity services, to take forward plans for social care, and to once again play a part in supporting our National Health Service, Labourโs proudest achievement.
Most of all Iโm looking forward to working with the dedicated NHS staff, carers, healthcare professionals and volunteers on whom we all depend.
In leaving the FCDO, let me pay tribute to the brilliant diplomats and ministers I worked with at the Foreign Office, and to my fellow foreign ministers from across the world - for all the work we did together to support Ukraine, to recognise the State of Palestine, to keep the spotlight on Sudan and to treat violence against women and girls as the global crisis it is. The partnerships we build abroad make us stronger at home.

It takes some brass-neck for a person on ยฃ100k+ a year, with ยฃ200k expenses, a free house with all bills paid & work at a place with subsidised food & alcohol to tell a disabled person their ยฃ30 a week PIP is too much.

So yesterday we handed in a letter to No.10 seeking better health care for people living with learning disabilities. Whilst on Downing Street I got an email to say LeDeR was ending with no statutory changes to stop the 20 year life expectancy gap. This is a national scandal .

Price of austerity.
56.6% of England adults with learning disabilities do not live past 65.
14.8% for the general population.
Deaths from treatable conditions double that of the general adult population.
Number of specialist practicing nurses down 44%.

Ordered ยฃ400 phone from @AmazonUK on 5th for 8th. No delivery. ยฃ10 'compensation' not received. New delivery date 13th also missed. Hi @andyburnham the UK has tens of millions of uncovered parking spaces: from supermarket car parks and retail parks to workplaces and other paved areas.
Why not make better use of the land we have already covered in concrete and tarmac by rolling out solar canopies over parking spaces?
A large-scale programme could potentially generate a significant share of our electricity demand, while providing shade for vehicles, supporting EV charging, reducing pressure on farmland and bringing energy generation closer to communities.
It's a no brainer. Just needs a little leadership ๐

Finally got resolution from @TfL via its online chat facility hidden deep in website. Statement process is madness in comparison to other comparable services. โ at Walthamstow, London

COUNTDOWN TO WINTERBOURNE DAY 4:
โณTHE LEGISLATIVE HOSTAGE
It's been six months since the Mental Health Act received Royal Ascent. So why is nothing changing? ๐๏ธ
The Government is hiding behind a "switch on" clause. They refuse to enact the reforms until community support is "sufficient," but they haven't funded a roadmap to get us there. It's an empty promise designed to buy them time while we lose ours. ๐
This is an inadequate response to a 15-year-old crisis... and let sbe honest... its decades longer than this!. We don't need more legislative excuses; we need a funded, transparent roadmap. ๐บ๏ธ๐ณ

On May 31st, it will be 15 years since the Panorama documentary about the abuse at Winterbourne View. Yet, despite all the promises, reviews and reports, it seems as if nothing has changed since then. The human rights abuse continues and there is no accountability.
Rightful Lives will be marking the 7 day countdown to the anniversary with a series of short videos with @AQuinnUnbroken. Alexis will talk about the situation we are all in now and what needs to happen for change. The first video will be on 25th May.

Two week reminder to fill in the Timms review into PIP.
I know we have been through countless consultations but it WILL be worse if we donโt push back and itโs vital those in MH respond as we are a key target and our organisations tend to be tamer.
