Congratulations to Patti Smith for winning the 2026 Harold Washington Literary Award! It was an honor to serve on this year's selection committee, as we thought outside the box a little in picking a favorite-of-mine poet, punk, rocker, and memoirist. We at @StoryandWitness celebrate her unique literary contribution to American culture.
