The first wind storm in a long time is coming this Friday. Some model output does look quite concerning. Exact position and track of the low to be determined but it does look to be somewhere over the south. Winds look to be very high. Expecting warnings

Earlier today a suite of AMSR3 high-res MW images captured Typhoon Champi as it neared its final approach to Guam. Note in particular the small size of the inner core and the intense returns in the eyewall both at 89 and 37 Ghz, glowing bright pink on the latter frequency.

Wow. That sure looks like it could be a large tornado near Allendale, South Carolina at 4:16 this afternoon. A tornado warning is in effect for Allendale County until 4:45, with one confirmed near Appleton. Take cover if you're near it.

El Nino has reached territory we've never seen before...
The Niño 3.4 region, an area of the tropical Pacific Ocean between roughly 120°W and 170°W, has reached an incredible +3.22°C above average, the warmest value ever recorded there.
This region is especially important because it is one of the primary areas scientists use to measure the strength of El Niño and La Niña. When the waters here become unusually warm, it can have major effects on atmospheric circulation and weather patterns across the globe.
That +3.22°C value has already surpassed the previous record of +3.02°C set in 2015, and we're only entering October.
Even more remarkable, El Niño events typically don't peak until November through January, meaning this event is already at unprecedented levels well before its climatological peak.
This El Niño is entering truly historic territory.
