I will dedicate the final hours of this day, 25 years after everything changed forever, to Port Authority Police K-9 Sirius, who perished when the North Tower collapsed.
His remains were recovered on 01/22/2002.
All work at Ground Zero was halted, and he was carried out draped in the American flag by an honor guard that included his handler, Police Officer David Lim.
May this hero, along with all the others, forever rest in peace and never be forgotten.

God bless all those directly affected by the events of #NeverForget911. The day is seared into the collective memory of those who were alive to witness. A day I will never forget, and one I still, to do this day, cry over.

Father Mychal Judge was a Franciscan priest and New York City Fire Department chaplain who died in the North Tower lobby on September 11, 2001, becoming the first certified fatality of the attacks. He rushed to the World Trade Center from his friary as soon as the towers were hit.He entered the North Tower lobby to pray for the injured and give last rites. He refused to leave while firefighters were still inside. He was killed by falling debris when the South Tower collapsed. His official death certificate recorded him as Victim 0001.Rescuers carried his body to nearby St. Peter's Church and placed it on the altar.
He was widely known for his compassionate work with the homeless, recovering addicts, and AIDS patients. The iconic photograph of rescuers carrying his lifeless body from the rubble became one of the most powerful symbols of that tragic day. New Yorkers continue to honor his memory through the annual Father Mychal Judge Walk of Remembrance.

They took memory cards from us and made us pay for storage. They took CDs and DVDs and made us pay for streaming. They took software you could buy once and turned it into a monthly subscription. They took ownership, convenience, and basically everything that used to be a one-time purchase… then somehow made us pay for it every month.
I remember you Rescola. RIP Hero.
A Hero That Trusted His Intuition.
The problem wasn’t that Morgan Stanley didn’t believe him.
Rick Rescorla had already been right once. After the 1993 basement bombing of the World Trade Center, the firm’s security chief walked the towers, studied the site, and reached a conclusion most people preferred not to hear: the World Trade Center was still a target. Next time, he said, it would not be a truck. It would be an airplane.
An airplane. In a 1993 report.
Executives listened. Then they looked at the lease.
Morgan Stanley was the largest tenant in the complex—twenty-two floors of the South Tower, thousands of brokers, and a trading infrastructure that could not be packed into boxes and wheeled across the Hudson.
They literally made it a trading center.
The contract with the Port Authority ran until 2006. Walking away from premium Manhattan space of that scale would have meant penalties measured in the hundreds of millions, plus the operational chaos of relocating an entire downtown machine. So the company stayed.
Rescorla adjusted. If they could not leave the building, they would learn to escape it.
He built a protocol and treated it like doctrine. Unannounced drills. No exemptions. Brokers who billed by the minute were pulled off their desks and sent into the stairwells two by two, starting from the top floors, leaving a lane for firefighters coming the other way.
People complained. He did not care. Practice, he believed, was the only thing that would beat panic.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 hit the North Tower. From the 44th floor of the South Tower, Rescorla could see the fire. Then the Port Authority came over the speakers: the South Tower was secure. Stay at your desks.
Rescorla grabbed a bullhorn and ignored them.
He started the drill his people already knew by heart. Floor by floor, two by two, down the stairs. He sang as he moved—Cornish songs from childhood, then “God Bless America”—keeping the line moving, refusing to let the stairwell become a stampede. Seventeen minutes later, the second plane struck the South Tower.
By then, most of Morgan Stanley was already on the way out.
Of the 2,687 employees in the building that morning, all but 13 survived.
It was stunning.
Rescorla could have been outside with them. He went back up instead. Colleagues told him to leave. He said he would, as soon as he was sure no one was left behind.
He was last seen around the 10th floor, heading higher.
The South Tower fell at 9:59 a.m. They never found him.
He was one of the 13.
He was a hero in every sense of the word.
Remember Rick Rescorla, he remembered for us.

In order to be born, you needed:
2 parents
4 grandparents
8 great-grandparents
16 second great-grandparents
32 third great-grandparents
64 fourth great-grandparents
128 fifth great-grandparents
256 sixth great-grandparents
512 seventh great-grandparents
1,024 eighth great grandparents
2,048 ninth great-grandparents
For you to be born today from 12 previous generations, you needed a total of 4,094 ancestors over the last 400 years.
Think for a moment:
How many struggles?
How many battles?
How many difficulties?
How much sadness?
How much happiness?
How many love stories?
How many expressions of hope for the future? – did your ancestors have to undergo for you to exist in this present moment...

One day, your home will be empty, and someone will have to decide what to do with your things. They'll open your drawers. They'll find the watch you treasured so much, the car you spent three years paying off, and the clothes you saved for special occasions because you didn't want to wear them out. And they'll make three piles: what to sell, what to give away, and what to throw away. None of it goes with you. Not a single thing. The only thing that goes with you is that afternoon you stayed talking for hours and didn't even realize where the time went. The look on your mom's face when you showed up to visit her without telling her you were coming. Don't collect things... Collect moments with the people you love

Bill Clinton explains how Jon Ossoff’s speech wasn’t just another political propaganda moment behind a podium.
The reason everything feels like it's collapsing is because it is. The social contract was: work hard, contribute to society, and you'll have security. That contract is dead. Now it's: work hard, go into debt, and hope you don't get sick or old because the system has no plan for you.
