The Nobel Prize committee has lost its moral compass. It has awarded its highest honor to a bigot who built her career around inventing and propagating blood libels against the one and only Jewish state. Navi Pillay’s proudest achievement was to legitimize a corrupt prosecutor who turned to her fabrications against Israel hoping that by joining her bigoted lynch mob, he would beat a rape charge. Karim Khan, who was accused by his own ICC employees of raping and sexually molesting them, used Pillay’s lies to build a fake case against Israel. Pillay supplied the lies. Khan weaponized them. And now the misguided members of the Nobel Committee are honoring the woman who propagated this demonization of the Jews and this travesty of justice.

Yesterday, October 7, after presenting my credentials to the King, I delivered my first public address at a ceremony commemorating the victims of the October 7 massacre, organized jointly by the Embassy and Belgium’s Jewish community. Around 650 guests attended, including elected officials, government representatives, the European Commission’s Coordinator on combating antisemitism, foreign ambassadors and members of the Jewish community. Their presence alongside us on this day was a meaningful expression of solidarity and shared remembrance. Sofie Berzon MacKie, a survivor of the massacre at Kibbutz Be’eri and curator of the Be’eri Gallery, shared her personal story, leaving not a dry eye in the room. Alongside the pain and loss, she spoke of resilience, recovery and rebuilding. Her story embodies the Israeli spirit: remembering those we lost, carrying the pain, and continuing to live, create and build. That is the spirit I carried with me yesterday, both into the Royal Palace and onto the stage at the ceremony. My heartfelt thanks to Philippe Markiewicz, President of the Jewish Central Consistory of Belgium, for his partnership and his deep commitment to the Jewish community and its ties with Israel.

Noya Dan was 12, on the autism spectrum, she loved Harry Potter and her granny. Noya spent the night of October 6 with her grandmother Carmela, 80, in Kibbutz Nir Oz, as she often did. On the morning of October 7 she texted her mother from the safe room that she was scared; Carmela wrote that she could hear gunfire and screams, and then the messages stopped. Palestinians broke into the safe room and killed them at the doorway, then set the house on fire. The house burned almost to ash; the safe room did not. A soldier who later recovered them told the family he found them holding each other, with a large bloodstain beside them. Their remains were identified only on October 19; until then the family thought they had been taken hostage. #RememberThem #oct7
