HEAVY RESCUE? You can say you’re on a “Heavy Rescue” all you want. If you don't have the equipment, the proper training and the confidence to do something like this then you're kidding yourself and the people you swore to serve. #heavyrescue #paratech #firefigher

I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by such critical thinking rescuers at these incredibly difficult training weeks.
Trench Technician course at Vaughan Fire. Extensive classroom theory followed by REAL collapses with active soil conditions, including a difficult “Repair Hole” with cross shoring. Difficult patient access and removal. @ff4vaughan @VaughanFire & @RHFES

When I was hired, I was told “chains are chains”. I now realize the extreme dangers that we have put ourselves in not understanding this equipment to the fullest. – at Toronto, Ontario
FIRE SERVICE RIGGING SAFETY Do your rescuers know the standards applicable to this equipment? OSHA…THIS IS LAW! ASME- Standards by Mech Engineers…This is like NFPA ANSI-Standards Institute oversees development of voluntary consensus standards

EV’s weigh twice as much as ICE vehicles. How are parking structures going to hold up to this excess weight? – at Toronto, Ontario
EV’S——HEAVY, FAST, LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY. Structural Collapse runs are going to continue to go up in numbers!! Crumple zones in other cars and are no match either. #vehiclerescue #autoextrication #firefighter #paramedic #flightparamedic #universityofnebraska @Paratech_Inc

“DIAMOND of DEATH” replaces “Lethal Triad of Trauma” by adding CALCIUM to resuscitation. USAR Teams & Rescuers that encounter Prolonged Extrication …..that’s ALL OF US! need to be aware of all of these factors. Ca+ is vital in clotting! #firefighters #paramedics #USAR

Train for Rapid Extrications! Don’t train to simply cut every piece of metal that you see. #PatientCare #firefighters #paramedics – at Toronto, Ontario
Roof removal when it unnecessary is a very amateur point of focus. Taking the roof/removing glass that doesn’t need to be is a hallmark of training on cars without a dent in them (it exposes patients to cold, which kills trauma patients). Use rams, cut the seats, get them moving

Last week, St. Michael's Hospital became one of a small number of hospitals outside of the U.S. to be verified as a Level 1 Trauma Centre by the @AmCollSurgeons. Take a behind-the-scenes look at how the hospital prepared for the verification process: bit.ly/3H46w3X

Trench Rescue Tactical Worksheets. High Risk/Low Frequency incidents are easier handled utilizing these. Requesting the correct resources early will happen when you follow these. DM for PDF Version. #firefighter #Feuerwehr #technicalrescue #trenchrescue

This is a very likely scene with trapped patients. This can/will happen in every community, large or small. You are responsible for the rescue. THIS IS YOUR SCENE! #firefighter #firerescue #feuerwehr #paramedic #technicalrescue #specialoperations
“We don’t need to know Tow Truck Driver stuff. That’s not our job.” Learn to calculate the forces involved in moving this truck off the trapped patients…Gradient, Surface Resistance, Weight Transfer, etc “Heavy Rigging for the Fire Service” addresses all of these and way more

14 years ago I read FD Special Operations. This book opened my eyes to so many important aspects of rescue. I was lucky to have a couple days with Chief John Norman talking about tactics but also life in general (…and having beers). #firefighter #specialoperations #soc – at Syracuse, NY
