Dark gritty fantasy.
You'll find no heroes here, just folk trying to survive a callous world.
Blaggards and Rogues
Mercenaries and Conscripts
Peasants and Working Folk
Megalomaniacal Lords and Arrogant Sorcerers
And perhaps a writhing mass of rats in there somewhere.

A very productive writing weekend, adding over 5,000 words to my new gaslamp fantasy novel The Silent Division. This takes me to within half a chapter of finishing the whole manuscript. I ran out of gas by the end of today, but finishing this week is a definite possibility! 🙂

Because DANCE WITH ME was an #InteractiveFiction novella, I wanted the reader-players to *experience* Lyra's struggle.
To be part of it. To feel what she felt.

In my latest RULE BREAKERS OF FANTASY FICTION I chat with @SnapeNick about his arcane fantasy series, thwarting convention and how clockwork dragons sum up how its done.

Time to recap the indie books I read in September!
I did something different and that was deeming the month Sequel September. I decided to read nothing but sequels and let me just say, I'm so glad I did because indie sequels don't get enough love!

Rule breakers disrupt convention, it's how the #fantasy genre has developed into its current golden age. Sub-genres abound and its down to visionary #authors to break new ground.
My interview with @dbrook.bsky.social explores how its done.

It's time for some indie book recs!
Going back into the early days of my indie reads (the way back machine, aka GR, tells me I read these about this time in 2022), and it was a four book series called War of the Twelve by @stumbleine44
As always, friends, read indie books!

Over on my blog this month I've been reflecting on how to deal with the sense of pressure authors can sometimes experience when things aren't going as you'd like. I've found a solution which works for me. How about you?
