One of the fun things I spotted during an action-packed day of @camideasfest: crochet your own #mitochondria, what a delightful idea! @StitchingSci @GurdonInstitute #crochetcell #camideasfest #cambridge #sciencetwitter #SundayMotivation
Having a great time @camideasfest today! Come grab some wool and make your own #crochetcell or #mitochondria. We'll be here at the Faculty of Law with @GurdonInstitute scientists until 5pm today, so pop by and see us!

This can be yours on Saturday at our Festival of Ideas event, Stitching Science: Crochet your cell! Join scientists from @GurdonInstitute to discover the amazing inner world of cells by crocheting your own. Sat 19th October, 11-5, Faculty of Law. @StitchingSci #CamIdeasFest
Less than a week until @camideasfest. We'll be hosting a drop-in session on Sat 19th at the Faculty of Law, so pop by and say hello 👩🏼🔬🔬👨🏾🎨🧶
You can learn to #crochet a #mitochondria, or start your very own #crochetcell - all completely FREE. See you there!
Our final #organelle is the #cytoplasm! This is often described as the space inside the #cell, but don't be fooled by it's simple appearance! The cytoplasm is actually jam packed full of stuff and is more like a soup than an empty space! 🍜 1/4
There are also lots of other #organelles and #molecules squished in that we haven't even mentioned yet!
To give you an idea, the second picture shows artist #davidgoodsell 's impression of a #cytoplasm FULL of molecules! 3/4
What's your favourite #organelle? Are there any parts of the #cell you'd like to see in #crochet form? 🧶 Let us know in the comments! 👇

We're back with the last two #organelles from our #crochetcell!
This purple #organelle is the #plasmamembrane, and it has the very important job of being the 'wall' that separates the inside of the #cell from the outside world 🧱 1/5
We're back with the last two #organelles from our #crochetcell!
This purple #organelle is the #plasmamembrane, and it has the very important job of being the 'wall' that separates the inside of the #cell from the outside world 🧱 1/5
In the second picture you can see that the #plasmamembrane is made of two layers of #lipids, with the heads on the outside and the tails on the inside 🔵♒♒🔵 this forms a barrier to help keep the inside in and the outside out! 4/5
Next up is our last #organelle for the time being: the #cytoplasm!
Follow us to keep up to date with more #crochet #biology! 🧶👩🔬🧫👨🏾🎨
