Incredible! Excited to see the peer reviewed version.

2/ TL/DR: We found neural activity across both inferotemporal and prefrontal cortex alternates between a conscious mode and an unconscious mode ~ 15 times every second.

We often assume a smart enough AI will eventually become conscious. But a new theoretical framework argues consciousness evolved specifically for biological self-preservation—meaning today's highly capable AI lacks the survival stakes to ever truly "wake… dlvr.it/TVcCrX

Well, I’d add one more with myself, as one with a PhD in biology and another PhD in AI and now working in both, to make n=2. Generating a hypothetical genome blueprint of a virus from LLM versus generating a true virus are completely different things. It is either an intentional attention-harnessing lie or true ignorance. The material, the manufacturing, and actual biological viability of paper-to-physical transformation is the gap you need to close. Like drawing a design of a chip or A-bomb, versus actually make one.
You have, and can add more checkpoints and guardrails all over this long chain of paper to physical transformation. Fear mongering is not well founded, and mostly emotional manipulation.
I am excited to have my latest paper on the evolutionary differences between cognition and consciousness published (finally) in Frontiers in Neuroscience.

This was personally important, as it was in part a tribute to my late friend and mentor Dan Dennett, who deeply informed my thinking on this topic.
Special thanks to @drmichaellevin for informing some of the deeper insights around AI, machine, and biological consciousness.

An old and worthy insight from the Nobel laureate and originator of cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence, Herb Simon: Don't spend 15 minutes figuring out a shortcut that will save you 10 minutes. Information-gathering and decision-making themselves have costs, so "satisfice" rather than seeking to optimize. This op-ed by David Epstein draws out implications for life decisions. nytimes.com/2026/05/12/opini…

Exciting to see our earlier research being covered by @LiveScience. Interesting read for sure:
