A message I received from Gaza today, written by a starving teenager. Knowing what they are living through these words should cut through each one of us who has witnessed for over three years this genocide. Food is so scarce and medicine is even more scarce. Please read these words and consider what their family and countless other families have been living with for 3+ years. It is truly devastating:
“Israel has allowed goods to enter Gaza, but continues to prevent the entry of vegetables, fruits, and anything related to food aid.
What Israel is doing is nothing but deliberate deception of the world, and an attempt to cover up the crime of genocide and the systematic starvation policy it continues to inflict on families in Gaza through different methods and means.
Israel allows goods that families do not need to enter, while preventing them from accessing everything they need to stay alive: food, water, and medicine.
It is not opening Gaza’s doors to life; instead, it continues to strangle it through starvation and deprivation, deceiving the world with false appearances, while families are left to face hunger, disease, and death.”

Please stand up for these innocent children and stop imposing a famine on them. There are children, losing teeth from malnutrition, and there are few dentists to help them. A week ago, Israel announced it would not allow more food into Gaza. Gaza is surrounded on all sides by Israeli forces and cannot import food any other way. And yet the potential forced starvation of a devastated population has barely registered anywhere.

Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.

There are many ways for Israel to impose famine on Gaza. The traditional method is a siege. This is complemented by a campaign to destroy the international aid network that keeps Palestinians alive. Israel has blocked vital groups from operating in Gaza, while its allies cut funding to those still allowed to be there.

Free food distribution has almost completely stopped, major aid organizations have suspended their services, and now the World Food Programme, a key source of flour and canned food for hundreds of thousands of people here, has announced the suspension of its assistance.
For over a week, trucks carrying vegetables, fruit, and frozen food have also been prevented from entering Gaza.
Food supplies are shrinking, everything entering Gaza is being tightly controlled, and food queues are growing frighteningly long.
We are already witnessing the signs of another hunger catastrophe. Families are losing their food sources one by one. Please, don't wait until people are dying of hunger again before you act. The world must act now.
