"You know, I was such a big Beatles fan. When I'd buy a new Beatles album I'd invariably hate it the first time I heard it, 'cause it was a mixture of absolute joy and absolute frustration. I couldn't grasp what they'd done, and I'd hate myself for that . . .
"They made the template for pop groups, and they also spoiled the template for pop groups. Because you could never get to the height that they were at, and as good as what they were doing — and of course they were doing it before anybody. You want some metal? Well, they've been there. You want the weird? Well, they've been there. You want the Indian stuff, they've been there . . . you've got to live up to those standards. They really ruined it for everybody. You can't be as good as the Beatles."
