It's depressing that time and again policymakers spout nonsense about gas markets and then use these misconceptions as the basis for policy
My new report sets out in detail how gas markets actually work and why prices are not "global"
Once you understand that there's not even a single European price never mind a single global price, and that UK gas prices now tend to be lower than European ones, it becomes obvious that we need to maximise UKCS production
Yet we use pessimistic projections based on a highly hostile fiscal and regulatory landscape as "proof" the UKCS is on its last legs and is becoming irrelevant
Alternative forecasts from @OEUK_ show significant upside potential if a more encouraging regime was adopted - the geology is the same but the economic context can be changed
The first of my six recommendations is to fix the broken understanding of how the gas market actually works - do this and much of the rest becomes pretty clear

So I've just learned Migrant Help, a charity assisting foreigners with asylum claims, housing issues and benefits here in the UK, is being funded to the tune of £235 million a year, soon rising to £385 million.
Funded by whom? Us taxpayers, courtesy of the Home Office.
This is organised treachery by our government. They have no intention of stopping the boats. None at all.

🚨 REVOLUT CONFIRMS SENSITIVE CUSTOMER DATA BREACH AFTER FAKE GOVERNMENT REQUESTS
Criminals reportedly impersonated a government authority and used a genuine government-agency email domain to trick Revolut into handing over customer data.
Passports, driving licences, addresses, financial information and verification selfies were reportedly exposed.
The attackers reportedly demanded $3m in cryptocurrency.
Now they’re reportedly moving beyond Revolut and targeting the victims directly.
Here’s the problem…. You can reset a password. You can cancel a card. You can’t reset your face.
Take this as a cautionary tale about the dangers of putting so much of our identity into digital systems.

They did not even wait to land on English soil before violence broke out today.
The men involved are now in the UK.
That should concern people.
You can argue about migration policy all day, but footage like this raises serious questions about screening, public safety and who is being allowed into the country.
Staying silent does not make the problem disappear.
How much more has to happen before people finally accept that this cannot simply be ignored?
How many more incidents?
How many more warnings?
How much more footage?
At what point does Britain finally say:
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

We have a serious serious problem
🚨 4,816 rapes were recorded in London in just 181 days
That comes from the Metropolitan Police’s own data.
That works out at roughly:
❌ One rape every 54 minutes
❌ 186 every week
❌ 803 every month
We keep being told London is getting safer.
But recorded rape is actually UP on the previous 12 months.
If rape is getting worse, as the Met’s own data shows…
…that doesn’t sound like a safer London to me.
