For decades, we have spent trillions to retrofit our cities, our public spaces and our society around cars.
It just didn't work.
If only we had an alternative.
If only...

First âoffâ of the winter. Hit a pothole, instant front-wheel puncture and in a split second Iâm on the deck. The roads really are in a bloody awful state. Bit bruised, but at least the bike is OK.đŤ¤

Chatted to a lovely gent in the Wolds today (when I eventually caught him up!) out for 30 miles on his e-bike. He was 75 years âyoungâ and so happy to get out for a decent ride in the sunshine. Bravo for the e-bike!

Press Officer @KateKampaigns talks to @ThatsTVYork about the long-term decline in cycling in #York.
We know the cause; more traffic, no improvements for cycling safety on most routes. Cyclists need safe #RoomToRide We will keep pushing for it.

This is horrifying @SouthWestWater! Shareholders profiteering at the expense of the environment. This must be stopped via legislation. #TorySewageParty

A grey and wet ride into the Wolds today only compensated by the fact that I almost had it all to myself. So quiet.
Got proper soaked, as way too warm for a waterproof - even a gilet. This worrying weather continues.

Thoroughly entertaining evening with @nedboulting in York last night. Informative, inspirational and really bloody funny! Thank you and good look on your windy ride to Ilkley.
Another cracking solo ride into the #YorkshireWolds today. Strong winds through the valley roads as usual - Millington Pasture like a wind tunnel! Thanks to the pair of hitters for letting me sit on in the wind as they headed back to LeedsâŚthat is, until I ran out of talent!đĽľ
Bloody hard work at times on my own riding into the wind today but, as always, the Yorkshire Wolds never lets me down no matter what the weather is doing.

First autumn evening ride of the year leaving in daylight and getting back home in the dark. A steady ride after Covid though a wonderful sunset and end to the day.

Hard but enjoyable long ride in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. Great for body and mind. That time of year again so blew the dust off the winter workhorse. Reminded again just how comfortable it is.

Anyone else feel a growing unease at this time of year at the thought of extended cycling in the dark, especially given recent anti-cycling media? Currently applying 3M reflective tape to rear-facing mudguard parts. May even cover the rear stays! #cycling #ukcyclechat #3M
Anyone know if the forthcoming Tour de France Femmes can be watched or streamed from the UK?
