This is not okay. This is exactly the kind of thing that pisses me off the most.
This is hogwash and lunacy, but here you have real people who believe it. How could they not? The media keeps telling them it's true.
There is a lot of money being spent to promote the cartoonish idiocy of AI doom
youtube.com/watch?v=lPdmYMHr…
Apparently Elon Musk said that AI will be uncontrolable because it will be "Too advanced."
Do people realize that Musk is prone to exactly this kind of exaggeration and that he loves to get a rise out of people? Or is that news to anyone?
The fact that the ai fear/doom movement and their idiots keep skewing toward human extinction in months gives me great hope that most people will be able to see that they are bat shit crazy
This man is certain we will all be dead in months.
Of course, you cannot reason with these people.
It should be becoming obvious that this belief system lives on the boarder of religious belief and mental illness.
FFS! This is why we need to stop having economists, philosophers, CEOS and others with zero understanding of the technology appoint themselves as authorities on how to deal with it.
No, you don't always have to be an AI expert, but you really should have some gumption before opining.
A Princeton University economist warned global central bankers at Jackson Hole that AI could soon predict policy moves, urging banks to speak more unpredictably and even hold separate press conferences for humans and machines reut.rs/4xjM3jj

Anthropic has leaned into "Model Welfare" and says they empower their models to avoid abusive treatment.
These are serious adults, running a real company. These people are all over the age of 18. They operate in society.
This level of bat shit insanity....
Anthropic is so worthless man.
If I can't tell a model 'fuck you' (a normal thing to say when the $200/m thing refuses a low-risk task) then we are not even remotely fucking close to AGI.
"wait but the model has feewings and does better if you say 'I believe in you'!" -- I'm talking to a fucking computer. You are pond scum.
AI models are computer programs. They are not human minds. They are not animal minds. They are not mind-like entities, and they do not become more mind like as they scale.
This is universally true of all current, previous and proposed machine learning models.
LOL. People are so stupid. We're coming up on September. So will the super intelligence take over in November or not until December?
I guess we get AGI first, then what? ASI a few weeks later? So does that mean full on AGI by October?
These doomers are pathetic.
The stubborn insistence that superintelligence is real and is a coherent concept that makes sense is one of the most stubborn problems in the AI Fear/Ignorance movements.
This may not be possible to convince people of, because it's such a deep belief, but I'm trying!
I am deeply concerned about AI. No, not the AI itself. I'm deeply concerned with how common and confident the misinformation is. The idiocy of AI doom, Ai consciousness and other myths is defining.
Non-fiction books are very hard. But someone has to

The missinformation about AI is more severe than anything I have seen in my life. It's so bad I have spent the past few months writing a book to try to help with this situation.
Here is the AGI chapter draft:

We absolutely need to do something about the toddler mindset of people who have watched too much Sci Fi.
Has anyone considered that if we put ASI (Whatever the hell that even is) in space it might turn into Darth Vader?
We should be extra cautious!
We should worry about AI Doom, but not because the AI is dangerous. Yudkowsky (an amateur idiot nobody should listen to) called for data center bombings. Altman's house was shot at. Then you see these lunatics saying shit like this. (Youtube video I came across)
These people are the danger. Not the tech. The insanity of the doomers is what is worrisome.
For those who do not know: Hinton never used to be so nutty. He is in his late 70's, and appears to be suffering from some kind of dementia, likely Alzheimer's.
Remember him for who he was; not what he degenerated to.
Very very sad.
"There is no sharp line between tool and subject, but a continuum!”
In an extensive interview, Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton breaks down emergent agency and why the "static tool" label is obsolete. As systems scale and self-restructure, instrumental goals naturally emerge to optimize objective functions.

One important piece of advice: Never take the word of someone who just offers unqualified and completely confident predictions about the future.
"In 10 years 50% of professionals"
"By 2028, most companies will..."
"In four years, our society will be..."
Heard that one before?
One of the issues that will mark the next 5 years is a never-before-seen concentration of wealth and power in the hands of frontier AI companies and the AI industry in general.
I see this process happening in 3 phases:
- Phase 1: Frontier AI companies siphon and monetize all the world’s cognitive potential through their AI stack and ‘superintelligence’ products.
- Phase 2: Frontier AI products continue to expand both vertically and horizontally, leaving little room for smaller, specialized players.
- Phase 3: The knowledge economy mutates into a massive AI-led economy, and frontier AI companies become immensely powerful and wealthy entities that shape institutions, the value of things, and the pace of life.
As you have probably noticed, we are currently experiencing phase 2.
Here's what else you should know:
When it comes to AI there has never been a better example of "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" It is not the machine that you must worry about. It's the insanity of the doomers.
Just a reminder:
Saying it over and over proves nothing
Saying it over and over proves nothing
Saying it over and over proves nothing
Absolutely. The "AI Safety" and "AI Alignment" world is nothing but loons. The problem is it obscures real safety issues: hallucinations, prompt injection, reliability, certification... the real risks never get considered because of the fictional ones.
It's easy to blame all this nonsense on the AI doomers but they would have been ignored.
No, this is mostly the fault of the well-funded AI safety and alignment orgs, often run by seemingly nice people who say they just want sensible regulation.
They were given a lot of slack just because they didn't say to literally bomb data centers but they did the lobbying, the subtle lying, the direct policy work to get us to this point of mass AI psychosis.
There never was a safety issue, AI was never nukes, and now they've helped breed a mutant strain of ludditism and regressive delusions that threaten to take down the US.
Thanks. I hope you had fun feeling riteous but remember, you're going to be up against the wall right alongside us when the cultural revolution you helped foment really kicks off.
Absolute unhinged loon. Even worse than he used to be, and he's always been a loon.
The people building superintelligence think it will get them immortality.
But superintelligence will cure zero diseases, because we won’t control superintelligence.
