New theory: the Canada Super60 has been designed to convince critics of the English summer cricket schedule that The Hundred is in fact not the worst format of cricket in the world; it could be much worse.

I'm ok with the Athlos event in principle and the lights are cool but the broadcast is too much, it's Americans yelling non-stop; everything is bombastic.

BBC Sport coverage is going the same way that it treated CBBC in the 2000s, trying to adapt to compete with the internet to not die out and ultimately alienating the existing base and dying out anyway, like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Manchester Super Giants @ManchesterSG100 missed a branding trick since the UK's main observatory, Jodrell Bank, is in the area, and a supergiant is a massive luminous star. That could have given the brand some local meaning compared to some of the other teams in The Hundred.

It's great to see the numbers turning out for the Metro Bank One Day Cup, and numbers might be down but some people are also watching The Hundred. Maybe there's room for both after all? And maybe this galvanising effect is what the county game needed.

Dr Stephen Fawcett retweeted
Jodrell Bank is the most visible causality of UKRI’s short sighted ‘vision’ for science, but as you’ll see below, there are many other valuable UK facilities and collaborations at risk. We became aware of the problem in the autumn of last year. It is not a result of the overall funding settlement for science after the spending review, which was quite generous I would say in the circumstances. Neither as far as we can tell is it a direct decision by ministers (all of whom have now gone in any case). Rather the problems appears to have been caused by senior management at UKRI focusing on short term economic ‘impact’ (whatever that means) rather than doing their job as custodians of the foundations of science. What must happen now is that the new ministerial team make the time (and space ;-)) to review the upcoming catastrophe, and instruct UKRI to do their job and focus on making Britain the best place in the world to do science, now and in the future.
The announced closure of the UK's largest telescope at Jodrell Bank is only a small part of the cuts in UK physics

Adverts during @channel5_tv coverage of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games - I'm off to BBC Alba where I might not speak Gaelic but at least I'm not going to miss anything! Some of us care about the countries that you skipped.

So Quansah can get his red card suspended for a year, right? He played the ball and caught the man afterwards by accident!

Wouldn't it be funny if Belgium did a sit down protest as soon as the whistle is blown for kickoff against USA, for all the world to see how wrong suspending the red card ban for Balogun is?

Just be thankful for your timeline that the offside VAR debate was between Portugal and Croatia and not England.

It's crazy how quickly Ben Stokes has managed to lose goodwill for his career achievements and sudden retirement by whatever it was they were doing in that batting lineup and performance.

Great to have been able to watch the final day of @rockleaguecurl curling in the UK; might have had a few more people watching if @BBCSport had put the link more prominently than 3/4 the way down the sport home page so that only people actively trying to watch would find it.

I don't think split finals are good; didn't they change long distance qualifying because the later heats always had an advantage of knowing what time to beat? It also takes away the drama of a head-to-head rivalry. #WorldIndoorChamps

I guess the reaction to the Europe flag appearing in the fireworks display in London last night suggests that thanks to Brexit we should also leave the European Ryder Cup team...

I'm so glad my friends introduced me to the #Top2000 - what to do when your final track of the year is 23 minutes long? Do a crossword with the crowd! Love it.

In the week that the BBC's had to apologise to Trump, does anyone think Sky Sports is going to apologise for rolling out Halo and being condescending to female sports fans?

When did 'aura' become a stat that football players have, like pace, acceleration, creativity, tackling or finishing? And what does it even do except for making funny TikToks?

This is the match that showed how exciting women's rugby can be - two evenly matched teams giving it everything with the result in doubt right up until the final whistle.

Here's a hot take for you: we actually need two more or two fewer First Class county cricket teams (and I wouldn't advocate the latter), because 18 is a bad number for trying to make leagues out of, unless you wanted to change it to having a third tier.
