On the TB test, the same needle is used on every animal. It is never sterilised after it is used. This can lead to infection and an increase in those lump sizes.
An old vet around my way used to soak cotton in iodine and put it at the bottom of the holster for the needle guns
A quarter of a million badgers were shot in England over thirteen years to control bovine TB.
In a single twelve-month stretch, the testing regime slaughtered 22,934 cattle.
Thirteen years of national argument, and all of it was about the smaller number.
Clarkson's Farm gave one of the larger number a face. She failed a routine test last July, was pregnant with twins, was taken off her calf, and was destroyed. The bull's result came back inconclusive. Farm shut, nothing in or out for two months, because that is how long you wait before you may test again.
Here is what the vet actually did to her.
Clipped two patches of hair on her neck, one above the other. Measured the skin at each with a pair of callipers. Avian tuberculin into the top patch, bovine tuberculin into the bottom. Then he left, and came back seventy-two hours later, and measured the same two patches again.
Take the swelling at the bovine site. Subtract the swelling at the avian site. Four millimetres or more and she is a reactor, and a reactor is destroyed.
Four millimetres. The thickness of a pound coin.
Notice what that test is not doing. It is not finding the bacterium. It is not looking at her lungs. It asks her immune system which tuberculosis it recognises more strongly, the cattle sort or the bird sort, and reads the answer off her neck as a lump. A cow can be riddled with it and barely reply. A cow can reply loudly and be carrying nothing at all. Her breeding changes how loudly she answers.
It is essentially the instrument Koch handed the world in 1890. The target for a TB-free England is 2038.
Every argument you have ever heard about bovine TB was about the animal in the hedge. Not one of them was about the pound coin.
None of these men are irish and comments off 🫠
I don’t want one other women or child to loose her life on the island of Ireland. No women should ever go through this.
People ask why victims don’t speak out. Because some abusers are masters at twisting reality. They never take accountability, they become the victim in every story, and they convince everyone around them to protect them. The abuse doesn’t end when the relationship does. Sometimes that’s when the manipulation really begins.
If anyone is in trouble please please contact the police or someone from @Womens_Aid , there are shelters you can go to and you can get out of it.

There are 17,447 homeless people in Ireland and hundreds of thousands more forced to live with their parents or pay extortionate rents.
The sarcastic caption reads: "Came to Galway. Where is the homelessness?"

When a black man who is a convicted criminal and shoplifter is held down and dies inadvertently, it's definitely racism - even when one of the guys holding him down is also black.
When a hard working innocent white man is walking along the road and is robbed and savagely beaten to death by two black men, it isn't racism.
Name the ideology that has brainwashed Irish people into believing this.

My follow up essay: Ireland's Failure Premium. To answer the question a lot of people have asked me: So where the hell does all of our money go, if it's not into creating infrastructure and a high living standard?!
[The short answer is: someone's pockets. Just not yours...]

Complete and utter pisstake from @opwireland: last October I FOI'd the OPW asking for the cost of all their standalone structures completed over the last year. They accepted, and acknowledged that they were legally required to fulfill that request by November 6th 2024.
They proceeded to take months longer than they were entitled to under law (I emailed them repeatedly asking 'what gives' and threatening to go to the Information Commissioner, and received no reply, they just totally blanked me).
Finally I open my email yesterday, February 1st, to see that they'd FINALLY accepted the request. So I thought "Oh thank God, took them long enough. Let's see what they have for me."
Behold, the full list. 👇 Bear in mind it took them 4 months, a third of a year to pull this together. It's literally like they're trolling. Is this what you call transparency and accountability, @opwireland? Absolute joke.
