Yesterday, I received my @VinegarSyndrome blu-ray of a cult film I worked on back in the #1980s: REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS, with Wendy O. Williams, Pat Ast & Sybil Danning. We had a good crew & a lot of fun making it--I worked in the Art Dept and among my MANY duties was dressing that awesome dorm set (go watch the trailer!)⚠️FYI: Not a family film, ya'll! #SoYoungSoBadSoWhat Sadly, I just found out this morning, that our director, Tom DeSimone, passed away yesterday. Tom also directed the horror classic HELL NIGHT (1981). It was great seeing Tom one more time in the BTS doc on the disc. RIP🙏

Now that Warner Archive has announced their definitive Tex Avery animation collection on blu-ray, it might finally be time to let go of my THE COMPLEAT TEX AVERY 5-laserdisc box set...maybe! 😉 #animation
TEX AVERY-THE DEFINITIVE SCREWBALL CLASSICS COLLECTION COMING TO BLU-RAY FROM THE WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION ON DECEMBER 1st! A FOUR BLU-RAY DISC COLLECTION plus a lavish 72-Page Book! Pre-order not yet available. ALSO: Warner Archive will soon formally announce a single disc TEX AVERY SCREWBALL CLASSICS Vol. 4 containing 14 shorts which were not included in volumes 1-3. What was once a dream is now a reality. Experience the definitive, complete, and uncensored collection of master animator Tex Avery’s peerless work at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. This groundbreaking comprehensive anthology brings together every single comic masterpiece Avery created during his tenure at the studio. Experience the astonishing brilliance and jaw-dropping sight gags exactly as they were originally unleashed—untrimmed, unfiltered, and funnier than ever. Tex Avery didn’t just make cartoons; he reinvented them into an animated art form all his own. Avery’s radical artistic vision, surreal logic, and fourth wall-breaking style redefined what animated shorts could be. From the wild transformations of the Wolf and Red Riding Hood to the chaotic antics of involving his deadpan canine Droopy, Avery's creations remain the pinnacle of golden age animated lunacy, touched with anarchy and genius. As a first-of-its-kind retrospective, this comprehensive four-disc collection leaves no stone unturned. To provide the ultimate Avery archive, this collection includes not only his 63 M-G-M animated shorts, all uncut, all uncensored, but also contains the Droopy cartoons helmed by fellow Metro directors after Avery’s departure from the studio. Accompanied by a lavish 72-page booklet, special features and archival rarities, this definitive collection is a mandatory centerpiece for animation enthusiasts to treasure forever. Movies are really a 20th Century phenomenon & much of the history of this art form has been lost over the years. That's why I get excited when I see something like WELCOME TO WACKYLAND, the story of WB Looney Tunes animation director Bob Clampett! Written by Ruth Clampett with my friend director/historian/author Darrell Van Citters who directed me in a multitude of Tom & Jerry cartoons! The book is beautifully designed & a wonderful trip down memory lane--I used to work for a small studio on the same street as Bob Clampett back in the 80s, and occasionally pestered him on my lunch break! If you're a fan of animated cartoons, I highly recommend it--I got my signed copy from @stuartngbooks 🎬❤

My favorite repaint of the Warner Bros. water tower is from TINY TOONS ADVENTURES: "After We Booted Out Columbia". For YEARS Columbia & WB shared the same lot under the dull The Burbank Studios logo. When SONY moved Columbia to MGM's lot, WB put the beautiful blue shield back!🎬

If you're a fan of #VFX and want to know about the making of some of your favorite sci-fi & fantasy films check out the now out-of-print CINEFEX back issues in an on-going online archive by publisher Don Shay. This was by far the most in-depth & well-respected publication on the subject of special effects in film. One PDF at the bottom of this search page has ALL the issues combined. Trust me when I say this is a TREASURE TROVE of vfx how-to's, interviews & lore--check them out, it's all FREE. archive.org/search?query=sub…

Post from publisher Don Shay about the formatting issues in this on-going project: "Once all issues are uploaded Phase II will begin: Cataloging each issue and article in a user-searchable database / spreadsheet. Complete additional meta-data on each year to include all appropriate credits and attributions. Clean up CSS to allow for ease of viewing on digital devices. Many folks have requested PDF versions of the issues. After monkeying around with the files, it has become apparent that creating PDFs will be a long, manual process; the method of scanning earlier issues deconstructed the magazines, while newer digital only issues lack layout information. Additional inconsistencies in file naming and HTML/CSS structure present additional fun challenges. This will likely be a Phase III community-driven project." 🎬👍

#CreatureFeature One of my favorite Peter Cushing films is ISLAND OF TERROR. Very creepy British monster-on-the-loose flick with a graphic arm dismemberment scene reminiscent of STAR WARS. If you can't find the blu-ray check out @JustWatch to find it on streaming! 🎬👍

Just heard the very sad news that Salami Studios, one of our great recording studios in Los Angeles, is closing after 34 years. So MANY great memories working there: incredible staff & engineers--another casualty of the state of our industry.❤️#voiceacting #hollywood #voiceover

Side Note: Stop-mo vfx supervisor Gene Warren Jr. (right) was working on THE TERMINATOR when he was my Cinematography teacher at film school. The only thing he told us was "I'm working on a film with a stop motion creature as a main character". We could NOT get him to spill the beans, but Gene was a great mentor that ended up loaning me equipment for my student films 🎬👍
The Terminator (1984) A deleted scene from the ending where it turns out the final confrontation between Sarah and the T-800 was actually at Cyberdyne, handing them the technology that leads to their creation and starts the future war. A great, bleak time loop paradox

Working with the artists & storytellers at Tippett Studio was a joy for many reasons. Phil Tippett was an inspiration to his crews who would often make collectibles like this for the film EVOLUTION. Phil's motto during STARSHIP TROOPERS was always "Creativity or Death!" ❤️🎬

Happy Birthday to Warner Bros. Looney Tunes / Grinch animation director Chuck Jones! When I was in film school, I interviewed Chuck for my "Directorial Analysis" class. I actually called him at home, his daughter said he was still eating breakfast and he would call me back--and he did! We had a wonderful talk about early films like Waikiki Wabbit, color choices in backgounds, and the Roadrunner & Coyote. A master at his craft & generous with his time to this young film school student.🎬🙏

Sept 18 is the anniversary of the debut of WKRP IN CINCINNATI in 1978! In the #StarWars #TheCloneWars arc known as "Ahsoka's Walkabout" we had a deleted sequence that paid homage to the classic sitcom when my character, sleazy used car dealer Terb Harlick, sells Ahsoka a junked-out speeder bike. I ad-libbed that it was a model "1138" in an attempt to finally contribute a THX reference! The wonderful Frank Bonner played the real Herb Tarlek in the WKRP series!🎬 #georgelucas #ahsoka
