After reading @katie_honan's good piece below on NYC govt reporting requirements in @THECITYNY, read @NYLawSchool's @Stephen_Louis1's article w/additional history & legal options, which he testified about at a June COGE hearing 🔗shorturl.at/oYCFl
City agencies are sometimes drowning in mandatory reports and data and audits from council bills. Could @nycmayor try to streamline some of them, as COGE suggested? thecityreporter.nyc/2026/08/…

there's actually good reason things like elected official compensation commissions (& subway/bus fare increases) get set up on required schedules. (sort of like how the state decided to peg the minimum wage to inflation & other such mechanisms that can make sense/remove politics)

After being elected mayor, I hired Michael Cardozo not only for his sharp legal acumen, but also for his unassailable integrity and lifelong commitment to the city’s civic health. Over his 12-year tenure as the city's top lawyer — the longest-serving Corporation Counsel in history — he played a central role in all of our administration’s policy, legislative, and legal efforts, including fighting illegal guns, taking on tobacco, cutting air pollution, improving the public schools, building affordable housing, advancing development projects, and strengthening government ethics. His dedicated service to our city in the public and private sectors will continue benefitting New Yorkers for many years to come, and I hope it will inspire the next generation of lawyers, too.

The Bloomberg endorsement is another indication that more & more people see this as a two-person race, & there will be a rallying around each of those two candidates from different entities who are strongly opposed to the other.

People should not underestimate the degree to which Ramos dislikes/resents/is wary of Mamdani (as we’ve seen through various comments this campaign, including first TV debate) & this coming right after AOC (whom Ramos also has issues with) endorsed him & left Ramos off her slate.

One thing I think about often is how the City Council made a big deal in 2018 of creating a very beefed up Investigations and Oversight Committee with a large team of investigators & other staff & that committee has done almost nothing of real note since.
