Former US President @BarackObama's comments in Belfast suggesting Jews "took land" from Palestinians, when the State of Israel was established in 1948, are an appalling exercise in historical distortion.
Fact is, the Jewish connection to the Land of Israel is over 3,000 years old. From King David and for millennia, through exile, persecution, pogroms and the Holocaust, Jews prayed year after year “Next year in Jerusalem”, while always maintaining an unbroken presence in the Land of Israel.
To recast Jewish return to our ancestral homeland as some form of colonial dispossession, is not just reckless and historically dishonest, but it also legitimises the poisonous libel that Israel is some kind of colonial project, emboldens its enemies who seek the Jewish state's destruction and only pours more fuel on the fire of global antisemitism.
And by the way, it should not go unnoticed that Mr. Obama chose to make his remarks in Ireland, which has today become the European epicentre of antisemitism and vitriol against Israel.
Words have consequences. A former US President should know better than to give historical revisionism and an old hatred, a veneer of legitimacy.

Zohran Mamdanis Aufstieg hat in der Demokratischen Partei einen Linksruck ausgelöst. Längst ist der Bürgermeister New Yorks mit seiner zweifelhaften Anti-Israel-Rhetorik zur Ikone einer Bewegung geworden. Nun wird er Teilen des eigenen Lagers zu weich.
