Je hoeft nooit “gewoon” kant te kiezen in een conflict. Letterlijk nooit. Je kanaliseert al je energie in het bedenken van een oplossing die zoveel mogelijk mensenzielen leed bespaart, — slachtoffers en daders, nu en in de toekomst. Je denkt als bemiddelaar, niet als stamleider.

It seems to me that this paper fundamentally rewrites the standard "textbook" story of human evolution in three major ways:
(1) The idea of a "pure" modern human origin in Africa is destroyed because every human alive today would be the result of a massive genetic "remixing" of ancient lineages occurring mostly outside Africa — lineages that had previously been separated for over a million years.

Ik maak er een punt van om nooit van mijn gesprekspartner te beweren dat die niet/slecht geïnformeerd is. De wereld is zó ongelooflijk complex. Intelligente mensen kunnen over dezelfde kwestie zeer uiteenlopende meningen hebben, zonder dat één iemand (helemaal) in de fout is.
Natuurlijk vind ik dat Poetin moet oprotten uit Oekraïne. Maar SERIEUS nadenken over politiek dwingt jezelf tot de vraag: wat moet je zélf doen als Poetin dat niet wil doen? Dan wordt het een kwestie van wat je kan afdwingen. Dus, serieus: wat kán Europa nu afdwingen?
Het zegt veel over onze ongelooflijke technologische tijden dat ik eerst dacht dat dit AI-gegenereerd was. Echt. What a time to be alive!
Eindelijk weer een boek aan het lezen dat zó waanzinnig goed is dat ik er MET VOLLE GOESTING mijn leven voor op het spel zet door het zelfs al wandelend te lezen. Het boek verlaat m’n hand gewoon niet, I’m sorry.
Ik zie mezelf meer en meer vraagtekens plaatsen bij de fameuze “leescrisis”; ik denk dat er enorm veel gelezen wordt, zeker onder de jeugd, maar dat literatuur zélf verandert, en dat de oude garde de nieuwe leesvormen niet tot literatuur rekent: BookTok, Manga, Wattpad, etc.
Ik herhaal dat Oekraïne alle recht had om bij de NAVO toe te willen treden. Maar daar vanuit Europa op aansturen, wétende dat Poetin dat absoluut niet wil, zonder je militair voor te bereiden op represailles, is onverantwoorde, roekeloze politiek. Beide kunnen tegelijk waar zijn.
Als diplomaat moet je de belangen van je vijand doorgronden, absoluut. Maar dat doe je, zodat je je eigen (en gedeelde) belangen beter kan behartigen, niet zodat je je vijand zijn zin kan geven. Dat laatste is capitulatie. Tom Sauer lijkt die twee door elkaar te halen. Onbewust?
Als je als soeverein land aangevallen wordt omwille van je wens om tot de NAVO te behoren, bewijst direct dat die wens om tot de NAVO te behoren gegrond was. Zo simpel is het. Als je klappen krijgt omdat je bescherming zoekt, dan blijkt dat die bescherming écht nodig was.
