Interesting from @MaioccoNBCS about San Fran: 'I do think the 49ers will be active looking for defensive line help at the trade deadline.' Depending how things go next few games you gotta wonder if Payne would help the Niners

San Fran has the best red zone offense in the NFL. 49ers scored 14 TDs on 16 RZ trips. Washington has the worst red zone defense in the NFL. Commanders have given up 15 TDs on 18 RZ trips. Big thing to watch tonight.

STORY: I sat down to watch some film with #49ers QB Brock Purdy to understand how he excels at layered throws. What I learned: everything Purdy puts into those has helped him master making every kind of throw and helped push him to another level...

Somebody needed to get fired in Indy. But based on this statement, it doesn’t sound like a team who will be holding any fire sales.

In 2025, under Robert Saleh (Titans HC), the 49ers ran Base on 18% of the snaps (29th).
Under Raheem Morris, and with the addition of rookie Jaden Dugger (53), San Fransico has become one of the NFL's leaders in Base usage (39%).
Dugger has a unique skill set that lets him play Edge and off-ball LB.
Morris has also flipped coverage usage, leaning more into his Cover 6/8 rotations instead of the 49ers' traditional Quarters.
With Morris on board, the 49ers defense now has more tools in the toolbox and sits 4th in DVOA entering Week 6.

De’Zhaun Stribling’s initial timeline was “~10 weeks”.
If he’s still in a boot, he’s following closer to a 12-16 week timeframe for RTP. We might not see him until Week 13-17 range.
49ers beat writer @jenniferleechan on De'Zhaun Stribling's recovery from ankle surgery:
"He's not even walking on the foot yet... I have a feeling it's going to be at least Week 12 for [his return]."

It's interesting that based on DVOA, at least, the better 49ers teams have been recent, not the 1980s Montana or 1990s Young teams. Here are the best 49ers teams by DVOA through 5 games.

49ers GM John Lynch said George Kittle asked him Thursday about the possibility of acquiring veteran edge Khalil Mack, who has three sacks for the 0-5 Chargers.
49ers GM John Lynch, via @KNBR on whether he's talking to teams: "Just because the flow of the trade deadline is approaching, yes. That’s our job to do that, to talk with our counterparts around the league. We receive calls, we make calls, just to see where the market is at."
