I'm teaching a data analysis class, and I'd love to use the Forbes article on reopening Georgia during covid as an example of what NOT to do. Unfortunately Forbes has erased it and the Wayback Machine doesn't have it. Did anyone save or screenshot it? forbes.com/sites/kevinmurnan…
A great write-up of our effort to involve kids in science communication at Yale.
To make science more digestible, scholars at Yale’s West Campus are embracing an opportunity to publish in an academic journal where kids are the creative force: bit.ly/YWC-kids @yale @FrontYoungMinds

My second paper for Frontiers for Young Minds, describing how plants protect themselves against high levels of fluoride, is up online! kids.frontiersin.org/article…
How I used math today: coaching youth basketball. It's half geometry, half operations research. We're running a motion offense that requires the kids to space the floor properly to maximize our chance of getting a layup. (Also hopefully maximizing their fun.)
How I used math today: two topology problems for the holidays. One was untangling Christmas lights, which are usually balled up, not really knotted. The second was learning the tautline hitch to keep the bumble standing straight.
Thanks to everyone at West Campus and beyond for supporting this event.

Thrilled to be back at Johnson to explore science with these amazing kids!
Dr. Dave came to teach us about the colors of the rainbow today! Ask your student about it. It was awesome. @JohnsonJags @hiller_dave

I had an awesome time exploring force and motion with the entire Johnson School. How do you turn this mentos geyser into a mentos rocket? Turn it upside down!

“We’re all scientists really” – David Hiller (that’s ‘Dr. Dave’ to New Haven area five-year-old’s) believes science can happen everywhere. Even Babies are in on the experiment! Full interview + class sign up bit.ly/WC_Dr_Dave
I don't think kids should memorize times tables. Some people who otherwise love my programs disagree. I found a solution: yesterday I taught my kids binary, including the binary times table. Thirty seconds later, we moved on to more interesting math. #STEMeducation #binary
This is likely the single most important concept in science. I'll discuss this problem and then explore the question, "How do crystals help us see really small things?" tomorrow at 1 PM. See stempogo.com/live-sessions for more info.
Here's info for today's live online session. Zoom link at stempogo.com/live-sessions/.
Just redesigned my website to make it easier to find online activities. Check it out at stempogo.com.
Our first activity is online! This isn't screen time - kids will use their hands to explore the math that connects cardboard and pizza, and solve an engineering problem. All you need is common household materials and some curiosity. stempogo.com/why-does-cardbo…
