#OTD 53 years ago 😱17 October 1973 Keith MacRae signed for Manchester City for £100,000 and Willie Watson joined from Manchester United. Yep, Motherwell were involved in transfers with those giants on the same day. Third photo is of Willie back at Fir Park in September 2023. Sadly he died in April this year. mfcheritagetrust.org

My research into St Mirren’s early years has been a deliberate project to learn what the missing/destroyed early minute books might have told us. I do it with the following mantra firmly in mind … TO APPRECIATE WHO YOU ARE IT HELPS TO UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’VE COME FROM COYS 😇

52 years ago this month Willie McLean was appointed the new Motherwell manager, (24 September 1974 - November 1977). He would remain in that post until he was replaced by his assistant John Hagart. This was an interim manager position until Boxing Day when Roger Hynd took over as fulltime manager (December 1977 - 1 November 1978).

Fellow Motherwell fans, as you may be aware MFC Heritage Trust helped author Steve Young in producing his new book, 'Well Beyond Scotland', which was launched on Monday evening in the Centenary Suite at Fir Park. It covers the club tours of Spain in 1927, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay in 1928, South Africa in 1931, Belgium and Paris in 1932 and the return to South Africa in 1934. Copies can be bought via this link weareeventpal.com/MFCHeritag… Here is a link to James Cropper of The Partido YouTube channel filming around Fir Park and discussing the Spanish section of the clubs tour in 1927. youtube.com/watch?v=G_RbVs-P…
