Why should we blindly accept the advice of those who are too stupid to recognise or understand their own position of privilege? Would you go to a mechanic for advice who's never personally had to strip a car and put it back together? Would you trust their opinion?

Yet actors are told on a daily basis how they can make casting directors jobs easier.. When it should be the other way around.. Since CDs are being compensated for their time, and in fact, actors are already paying for their time and right to audition through our Spotlight fees!

Taken seriously by individuals who often hold no formal degree, training or qualifications within the field of theatre/Film/TV... Who have probably never stepped foot on a stage or screen themselves... Who have never had to place themselves in a vulnerable position...

Actors are tired, they're fatigued... They want more, they deserve more... We spend years and thousands of pounds on training to be actors, only to enter a profession where we still need to spend hundreds on a yearly basis to even be taken seriously as actors...

All jokes aside, the level of understanding and empathy we have in the acting industry for mental health, needs vast improvement and reevaluation... Geniune thank you to all of those CDs and industry professionals who are doing better and choosing empathy...

The danger of posting comedic content as an actor is that you end up only being seen as the 'funny actor' or the 'silly guy' in the eyes of casting...

More Casting Directors like Monika please and thank you! 🙏❤️😁 "in an industry where actors and agents can sometimes feel afraid to speak up". Neurodivergent actors already feel vulnerable and as if their voice is less valued, we don't need your scare tactics to boot!!!

Please take the time to read this... This experience had lasting impacts on my mental health and outlook on the industry... And it simply shouldn't have happened! To this day there's been no explanation as to how this project was allowed to go forward under these circumstances!

And since that day... I've never been seen for an Elevenfilm production or Channel 4 production... Talk about feeling used and spat out! #actor #acting #actingindustry #exploitation #television

I did also, after literal years of fighting and being silenced/ignored, receive a half hearted apology email from a corporate figure head who offered nothing in line of compensation or reimbursement...

But what there 100% was... Was a complete exploitation of early career artists who didn't know better, and for a platform and company who should have been operating to a higher and more professional standard.

However, I have to take some responsibility, I was foolish and niave enough to agree to take part with no promise of financial reimbursement, and I also was not a member of Equity at the time, so I had no protection there... Nor was there a formal contract...

Now, as a working-class neurodivergent artist, TV opportunities are like gold dust, and sadly to this day... This remains my only TV experience... And it's tragic its one of exploitation!

"This industry owes you nothing!" But what if it actually does... I can say wholeheartedly Elevenfilm and Channel 4 owe me a recognised TV credit... After I was deceived into taking part in Nightmares where I received no credit, no showreel material, no compensation for my time

Actors have this incredible ability to abandon all thoughts, opinions and morale compass if they think there is an opportunity to be agreeable... And we've all done it! Don't lie! We've given ourselves the ick so many times doing it!
