The 11-element FM Innovantenna now takes the top position of my tower. It was a pain getting it up there, but I can already see a huge improvement for FM DX. The Cushcraft MA5B HF remains on the lower portion of the pole.
I acquired this 1984 model JCPenney color TV, and I don’t care that it’s not high definition because I can pretend like I’m watching TV like it’s the 90’s again.
A very weak 94.5 KLGL Salina Utah received here in Akron Ohio on July 20 at 1,588 miles... you can barely hear "The Eagle 94.5" but it's there.
Some double-hop FM e-skip to Puerto Rico logged from my cottage in Ontario Canada... these 3 stations are over 1900 miles!!
During an exceptional E-skip opening yesterday, I received 100.3 KPEK “The Peak” from Albuquerque, New Mexico here in Akron, Ohio at a distance of 1,403 miles. This marks the first time I’ve ever heard Albuquerque on FM from my location. It was the only station from that area heard, and KPEK was one of the last stragglers from yesterday’s massive E-skip opening.
A short-hop E-skip catch from today! 📺 WHBF-TV (CBS) RF 4/ virtual channel 4 from Rock Island, Illinois made it into northeast Ohio at 460 miles.
A few highlights from the past several days of E-skip! This clip features a mix of lower-powered FM stations along with some unusually short-hop (less than 400 miles) into the Knoxville, TN and Raleigh, NC areas.
A reminder that analog TV is still on the air in 2026. This clip is Cubavision on VHF Channel 6 from Havana, Cuba, received Sunday afternoon here in northeast Ohio via sporadic E.
Yesterday’s e-skip brought a milestone log here in northeast Ohio—94.3 KXRQ, Roosevelt, Utah at 1,467 miles. It’s my first-ever Utah FM station. Always exciting to add a new state to the log, especially from this distance.
This morning brought an impressive tropo opening into the Toronto and Buffalo areas, around 200+ miles from my location. Signals were quite strong, with several stations completely overriding local frequencies. Here are a few. Around lunchtime, the duct shifted west, bringing in Chicago-area stations from around 320 miles.
Tuesday's short-hop FM E-skip was a surprise! Here's about 5 minutes of highlights with stations from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York making it into northeast Ohio. A high-quality opening with many new IDs. The shortest distance was 398 miles to 93.9 WNYC & WJLP-TV channel 3, but most logs within 400 to 600 miles.
Double hop e-skip, 93.3 WSYE from Mississippi logged on a cruise ship headed to Alaska, distance is almost exactly 2300 miles from my QTH!

A three-day E-skip period so good as last week's deserved its own @radioworld_news story, wouldn't you say?

New state logged by e-skip, 88.7 WRVT Rutland, VT at 470 miles! Also logged was 103.1 WZKC Royalton, VT at 506 miles with RDS. Today was a crazy DX day. I’ll have a lot of recordings to review.
