#NFL player, coach and Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, a Pennsylvania native, was a star on his Aliquippa High School football 🏈 team. In 1955, playing as tight end and defensive end, he helped the Quips achieve their come-from-behind victory over Mt. Lebanon, clinching their second WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Association League Class AA) championship. After the game, the team cut down this section of a goal post, painted it, and kept it in their locker room to commemorate the win. Aliquippa’s longtime coach, Michael Zmijanac, later donated the piece to @StateMuseumPA. @ChicagoBears, @dallascowboys, #NFL, @ProFootballHOF

#DidYouKnow? Pennsylvania's new State Capitol, located on Third Street between North and Walnut streets in Harrisburg, was dedicated on Oct. 4, 1906. Its predecessor had been destroyed by fire in 1897. The dedication ceremonies were impressive. Gov. Samuel W. Pennypacker dedicated the Capitol & #POTUS Theodore Roosevelt gave the formal address. Roosevelt referred to the new capitol as the "handsomest building I ever saw." The State #Archives preserves this image of the dedicated State Capitol building. #OnThisDay➡️ pastatearchives.com

Today is the 250th anniversary of Pennsylvania’s constitution of 1776. Ratified Sept. 28, 1776, this constitution was the state’s first, following the Declaration of Independence. ➡️ pastatearchives.com The 1776 constitution, considered one of the most democratic state constitutions of its time, detailed the rights of citizens, expanded voting franchise to all tax-paying free men, established a government led by a unicameral legislature and Supreme Executive Council and instituted a Council of Censors. The constitution would be replaced by a new version in 1790. Please read the constitution's declaration of rights and signatures, preserved in the State #Archives.
