One very practical reason behind this could be the sharp rise in memory and storage prices this year, which is making new flagship phones increasingly expensive to produce. Under these circumstances, extending the lifespan of older flagships becomes much more valuable. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Xiaomi 14 Pro is still more than capable today. The battery is usually what ages first. With an official larger-capacity replacement, users can get even better battery life than when the phone was new and potentially keep using it for another year or two. I have a feeling more manufacturers will follow this approach. The more memory prices rise, the more sense it makes to keep old flagships alive.
