2/3 of EM docs under-diagnose #delirium, and 90% of older patients present with hypoactive delirium, ever wondered why that patient is falling asleep when you talk to them in the busy #ED? 🧐 @geri_EM @MauraKennedyMD @KevinBiese @SAEMonline #SAEM22

Excellent talk @SAEMonline #SAEM22 from @StanichJessica of @MayoClinicEM regarding delirium and fall risk, found that 88% of falls in patients 75+ had #delirium. How do we better identify high risk pts in the #EmergencyDepartment?

ED #delirium associated with higher 30 day mortality in #geriatric patients. Maybe we should call #delirium acute brain failure, it is clearly a huge prognosticator in the ED. Thank you @lucasojesilva12! @MayoClinicEM @StanichJessica @mfbellolio #SAEM22 @SAEMonline

Screening for geriatric conditions at the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) results in more tests and referrals but doesn't change high-risk prescribing. Having more than one AWV increases advance directive uptake slightly. #geriatrics agsjournals.onlinelibrary.wi…

Today I saw a patient who is identified as a falls risk in hospital. She is told to never get up without calling for help, has a bed alarm and all 4 rails up in bed. She has her meals and pills brought to her bed and is assisted with her adls. Tomorrow she is going home, alone. – at Toronto, Ontario
