🇺🇸 REMEMBERING CWO2 RICHARD LAKE HOLYCROSS September 10, 1967 — September 10, 2026 Fifty-nine years ago today, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Richard Lake Holycross made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Just three days earlier, on September 7, 1967, Holycross had led his Marines through a desperate battle southwest of Con Thien. Serving as commander of the 81mm Mortar Platoon with 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to reorganize and encourage his men. When the enemy attack threatened to penetrate the battalion command post, Holycross personally directed the fight and even took command of an antitank weapon, bringing devastating fire against the attacking NVA force. His courage and leadership earned him the Silver Star. Three days later, he was killed in action. On September 10, 1967, CWO2 Richard Lake Holycross gave his life in the Republic of Vietnam. His name is permanently inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 26E, Line 45.
