Today I was the target of a malware attack, the user was able to get access to my steam and twitter, I assume by hijacking my browser cookies and mirroring my Google Chrome, allowing him to access both my Twitter and Steam messages at the same time without using my authenticators for either account. They then orchestrated a fake sale for my item. They did it at 3am my time knowing I would be asleep. A few weeks ago, I was drinking some beers and enjoying some matchmaking games with the boys when I was contacted to sell an inventory, the seller wanted to hop on a quick call, so I figured let me sit one out real quick and hop on this guys call - a bit annoying but nothing too out of the ordinary for a large sale like that. I, as well as other cash traders we're targeted by this individual using many different twitter accounts posing as Chinese traders looking to bridge the gap with the west, he wanted to communicate over voice, and discord is blocked in china so we agreed to do zoom. I was contacted by the account pictured below. So, slightly intoxicated, I regrettably downloaded a file from what I soon realized was a malicious link. So I immediately ran 10+ full PC scans with both MalwareBytes and Windows Defender - they both said I was good, and from what I could read on various internet forums, if MalwareBytes says you're good, you're good - and so I trusted that. Since this, I have run nearly daily MalwareBytes scans with no warnings coming from them. Fast forward to my phone blowing up in the middle of the night and unanswered called from 10 different people - luckily I have @Rambofight set as a favorite contact, so he was able call through my do not disturb at around 6:30 am when he woke up - around 3 hours after the hack. We quickly went through and reset the passwords of my email, twitter, steam, discord, facebook and a few other platforms, cleared all my browser cookies, reset my whole PC and made sure my skins were moved to his account for safe keeping during this ordeal. My ebay account was also compromised, but their system managed to detect the malicious activity and froze my account immediately with no harm done. The hacker posted a fake sale on my Twitter and unfortunately managed to scam someone out of $10,000 of USDC in my name. I apologize sincerely for this. A reminder to both traders and sellers alike to always be vigilant when dealing with strangers on the internet - no matter who they are. Always do your due diligence and if a deal is too good to be true, it probably isn't true. I'm sorry.
