After I posted @StatusL2 yesterday a few people mentioned they had never heard of them lol. (I liked that someone mentioned @ethstatus along the line) Well where did Status Network come from? StatusL2 is not just a random build, like how would LineaBuild pick a random project alongside big guns like consensus? They didn’t just appear overnight guys. Status has been quietly building core Ethereum infrastructure for years long before “gasless L2” became the headline. Let's dive in further shall we? Status started in 2017 as a privacy first mobile app> • Secure messaging • Crypto wallet • Web3 browser The mission > make Ethereum accessible plus censorship resistant, but to do that, they realised the Ethereum stack needed more than apps. It needed a solid infrastructure. So Status got to work on building the missing pieces. • Waku > a decentralized messaging protocol, built to replace Whisper and power secure, p2p comms for Web3 apps. • Codex > a decentralized storage, A censorship resistant way to store plus retrieve data. • Nimbus > a lightweight Ethereum client, Optimized for mobile plus resource limited devices. These were not mere side projects. They became foundational parts of the Ethereum ecosystem. Waku > now used beyond Status itself Nimbus > a respected client in Ethereum consensus Codex > paving the way for decentralized infra This background explains why Status Network looks different from most L2s. They did not start with a token. They did not start with sequencer fees. They started with infrastructure plus good principles. The StatusL2 is just the next chapter. By combining what they have learnt • Privacy (Waku) • Lightweight scalability (Nimbus) • Data availability (Codex) They are building an Ethereum native rollup that is Gasless Spam resistant Sustainable So when you hear Status equals gasless L2 remember the roots. This is a project with 8+ years of history, building tools that Ethereum still relies on today. The StatusL2 is the culmination of that journey not the start. Status is not just another L2 launch. It is the continuation of a vision > Private communication. > Sustainable infrastructure. > Credibly neutral coordination. You can find out more about StatusL2 from their website.

status season 2 incoming think base app but with a focus on privacy
Fun fact: @ethstatus for mobile was pretty much ahead of its time. Things you see in @base that exist(ed) in Status: • chat (based on @Waku_org ) • group chats • transactions (via chat also) • integrated wallet (multichain support) • mini apps (via built-in browser) • social (via Timeline, also @Waku_org based, though, experimental) • device syncing @ethstatus was the super app all along.

we are part of @ethstatus SNT is deeply integrated into Status L2: - holders will be able to stake SNT to secure the spam protection in the gasless L2 design - there will also be an SNT buy back and burn program using the L2 native yield

If you believe this, I strongly encourage you to pay attention to what @ethstatus is building.... Always at the top development leader boards, along side teams like chainlink... @ethstatus becomes the mother of communities [community tokens]... Feel like there's going to be a lot more tokens in our future 🤱

I am not against any experiment in principle. I am against people YOLOing into markets they don’t understand. But if everyone has a memecoin, like everyone has a social media profile, then every buyer knows the game. And lockups can be introduced. Will be bumpy en route though.

The Logos stack includes three modular protocols: ◾️ @Nomos_tech (consensus) ◾️ @Codex_storage (storage) ◾️ @Waku_org (messaging) They lay the foundation for any borderless public institution based on voluntary consent. Will you help us build the future of human governance?

📢 Big news! We’ve just launched the very first public beta preview release of Status Desktop 🥳 Download it now from: status.app/ The blog post linked below gives more information about this first public beta release of Status Desktop. It’s early days; there are many bugs that we are aware of and working to fix, and some of the features needed for a non-beta release haven’t yet landed. But we wanted to get Status Desktop into your hands so you can see what we’ve been working on and help us find any bugs we might have missed! Some things to note about this first beta pre-release: 👉 You won’t be able to use the Wallet to interact with DApps yet. We are still busy building this functionality! 👉 ‼️We advise against using real funds in the Wallet at this time. It’s early beta software, and bugs could lead to loss of funds. 🙏 👉 The messaging functionality consumes large amounts of bandwidth. Yes, we know, and yes, we are working on fixing this! All that said, this preview beta release marks a major milestone in our mission to deliver the ultimate open-source, decentralised, permissionless, censorship-resistant, self-sovereign super-app! This blog explains more about Status Desktop’s features, precautions to take when exploring this release, how to request new features, the importance of community bug reporting, and Status Mobile 2.0’s upcoming first public beta preview release. We heard you — taking small actions on the Status app can cost too much in gas. This is why there’s now a proposal to launch Status Chain, a Layer 2 rollup built on Ethereum! Head over to our forum to learn more about it and give your feedback: discuss.status.app/t/nip-3-l… This New Initiative Proposal (NIP) aims at providing a low gas fee environment so that users are not priced out due to congestion during surges in activity. TL;DR: The proposed Status Chain would be a Layer 2 rollup that is EVM equivalent and based on Ethereum, with a target of 1 cent (or less!) per transaction. It is proposed that the Status Chain could leverage an existing open-source rollup framework that aligns with Status' core ethos and that has a strong bias towards client diversity — as we'd love to integrate our upcoming @ethnimbus execution client with this proposed new L2. This development would be a big step forward for Status as it would allow us to have a sovereign Ethereum-aligned rollup where app developers could build directly for Status Communities in an environment they are comfortable. The discussion has already started, and you are encouraged to join it and make your voice heard! After rounds of feedback, we will formalise proposals before letting SNT hodlers indicate on Snapshot which of the NIP proposals they would like to see prioritised next. Learn more about the Status NIP process here: discuss.status.app/t/new-ini…

Love Status, but wish you could easily find and connect with contacts from other (less private) communication channels? Head over to the forum where the Status community is discussing NIP-2, which deals with pseudonymous contact discovery: discuss.status.app/t/nip-2-p… The proposed new initiative would introduce a feature through which Status users can discover the contacts they have on other platforms (such as X or in their phone address book), easily connect with them in Status, and start chatting with them via Status in a private, secure, and decentralised way. To succeed in its mission of bringing freedom of speech to the world, Status needs to succeed in gaining user adoption. With the messaging space being so dependent on ‘network effects’ (how many people would use a messenger app that none of their friends use?), this proposed feature could help bootstrap Status usage by making it trivially easy to connect with people you are already connected with via other social networks inside Status. While the feature would bring benefits from a UX, user growth, and utility perspective and would be designed to achieve the maximum level of privacy protection possible, it would still reduce the privacy of those choosing to use it to a certain extent. Therefore, like with other Status features that involve any privacy compromise, it would always be optional to use. This is also why we want to get the community’s input, thoughts and ideas about this feature specifically. If you have comments, feedback, suggestions, or concerns with this or any of the other NIPs, please join the ongoing discussions on the forum! discuss.status.app/t/new-ini…

Did you notice the token-gated Community admin sections on Status.app yet? Community chat spaces can be both ‘open’ and ‘closed’. Open Communities are accessible to all, whereas a closed Community requires a Status user to hold a specific token or tokens to become a member. When setting up a closed Community, the owner adds a permission that might say, “Only holders of a specific token can become a member of this Community.” Community owners can also token-gate individual channels in both open and closed Communities, with both ‘view only’ and/or ‘view and post’ permissions. Head over to status.app/features/create-c… to find out more. We’re also working on a blog post, which we’ll publish in the coming weeks, to dive much deeper into this extremely powerful feature. Stay tuned!

Like Ethereum was the mother of crypto[tokens], @ethstatus becomes the mother of communities [community tokens]... Feel like there's going to be a lot more tokens in our future 🤱
Just like web3 in general, Status Communities revolve around tokens. Therefore, the new and improved Status Desktop provides you with the tools to easily mint Community tokens in the UI (no technical experience needed!) In Status Communities, tokens can be used to: 👉 Manage Community membership 👉 Manage access to channels inside a Community 👉 Assign admin privileges 👉 Reward Community engagement and incentivise participation 👉 Monetise a Community through token retail functions 👉 And much more! Status Community owners and TokenMasters can use the tools in Status Desktop to mint both NFT and ERC-20 tokens, assign permissions to these tokens, and then airdrop or retail them. Tokens can be minted with optional attributes like being soulbound, remotely destructible, or unlimited or finite supply. Permissions can also be assigned to existing tokens, which can be particularly useful for blockchain communities that already have their own token or tokens — like those forming around NFT projects, DeFi protocols, and other web3 initiatives. Community owners can delegate Community token management to multiple trusted individuals via the TokenMaster token. The optional remote destruct token and soulbound attributes enable management of who takes on Community responsibilities. If an admin goes rogue, they can’t sell or transfer their responsibilities, and a Community owner can terminate admin access with a single ‘remote token destruct’ transaction! This year, we’re making a big push to engage the Status community, and that includes inviting you all to help steer our development efforts via our ‘New Initiative Proposal’ (NIP) process! The community is already discussing new initiatives to undertake, including the ‘Introduction of an SNT staking mechanism’. As the proposal author writes: The NIP aims ‘to better align the incentives of the Status community, increase engagement in governance decisions, and attract and retain users of the Status app’. You can find more details about the proposal on our forum: discuss.status.app/t/nip-1-i… If you’re enthusiastic about Status and its future, we encourage you to add your comments, feedback, suggestions, or concerns about each of the NIPs on the forum. After rounds of feedback, proposals will be selected, and SNT holders will be able to indicate which of the new initiatives they’d like to see us prioritise. Head over to the forum now to learn more about Status’ NIP process: discuss.status.app/t/new-ini…
