Ma'Khia Bryant was 16 years old and had her entire life ahead of her. For the second time in less than a week, we are collectively mourning a child killed by the police. We'll say it again — a system that kills children with impunity cannot be reformed.

I prefer the word “accountability” instead of “Justice”. One person was held accountable today for torture & murder of #GeorgeFloyd “Justice” would be dismantling the criminal legal system that keeps traumatizing and killing our Black family. #MakiyahBryant

After defeat of NAACP supported anti-lynching bill in 1922, Du Bois wrote: "the machinery of the US Senate is antiquated to the point that millions of ppl may suffer injustice & death on account of it" ^Still true in 2021 Excellent thread on racist history of filibuster 👇🏾

Our trans youth should be protected, not alienated. Olivia Data, a high school student and athlete, testified in front of North Dakota lawmakers to say that trans people belong in sports, and deserve a safe and healthy environment. We'll keep saying it: Trans people belong.

Wonderful news! We have a number of bills this season that could give immediate relief to folks. Let’s hope the people we have elected will center the rights of people who are poor in our state!
📣VICTORY! The WA Senate just passed SSB 5226, a bill that would end debt-based driver’s license suspensions for moving violations in Washington state. If this bill becomes law, impacted people would no longer be criminalized for not being able to afford court fees and fines.
