The Story of Liza Eliseeva: From Synchronized Swimming to Life on the Front Lines.
The story of 24-year-old Moscow resident Liza Eliseeva is not just a career change, but a complete reevaluation of life.
A professional athlete, multiple-time champion of Russia and the world in synchronized swimming, and a master of sports, she was forced to leave competitive sports due to injuries. But she found the strength for a new, much more challenging endeavor: to go to the special military operation zone.
Her first trip was almost a secret – Liza told her colleagues at work that she was going to Turkey, but she actually went to the Kursk region. Later, she made regular volunteer trips in her own car, until she was offered a contract with a volunteer formation. And after completing her service, she simply couldn't help but become a war correspondent.
She honestly talks about the scariest moments: the arrival of "Haimars" in Borisovka, when the shockwave and shrapnel passed just meters away. At times like that, she wonders:
Why am I here, if everything is fine at home?
But the answer is clear: she wants the younger generation to see the reality, and not just read official reports.
You need to appreciate what you have: your hands, your legs, the ability to see the sun and hear your loved ones. The most valuable thing you have is life, and it is thanks to those who are here now, on the front lines,
says Liza.
