I recall efforts of Rodolfo "Rudy" Acuna to teach Chicano Studies and history I heard mainly through people I grew up with. He supported education and putting context to those street stories. He battled the UC system (UCSB) in the '90's to teach. (Credit: ChicanoCultureSB)

Rodolfo “Rudy” Acuña lived his life following a simple credo: “If you know something is wrong, you have a duty (not an obligation) to do something about it.” By @DoranyPineda90 & @GustavoArellano latimes.com/obituaries/story…

Rest in peace, Rodolfo “Rudy” Acuña, Ph.D. (1932-2026), pioneering Chicano Studies professor at CSU Northridge, who reminded us that our country's Latino heritage is as integral a part of U.S. history as George Washington, Tecumseh and Susan B. Anthony. latimes.com/obituaries/story…

"Oscar Gomez and his childhood friend Juan Gonzalez attend a protest in Santa Barbara on Feb. 1, 1992. The protest was in support of CSU Northridge Chicano studies scholar Rudy Acuña, who had been turned down for a faculty position at UCSB and was challenging the decision."
