.@brysondech's move to @livgolf_league gave him the opportunity to become a content creator and has led to him becoming a global driver of youth golf participation and fandom
Full breakdown on the latest StreamTime Sports Podcast.
.@livgolf_league , like practically every other newly launch sports competition made 2 fatal mistakes.
1) They are treated like typical businesses and given a far too short a runway to succeed or fail.
2) They often conflate social views and attention with fandom.
Every other sports property its competing with has had a generation or more to bed itself into the fabric of society.
You can't manufacture fandom overnight.
We broke down want went right and what went wrong for LIV Golf on this week's special editions of the StreamTime Sports Podcast.
podfollow.com/streamtime-pod…
Was LIV Golf good for the sport?
Whatever way you look at it, LIV disrupted the sport in a way few could believe possible.
Now it’s going through bankruptcy proceedings, top players are heading for the exit, and its raising fresh capital to fund its '2.0'.
So on this week’s StreamTime Sports we went deep - and it’s the deepest we’ve gone on any single sports property:
We cover where LIV came from, what actually happened along the way, the various changes in leadership, and whether there’s a viable business on the other side.
Some of it you’ll know. Some of it won’t be what you expect. And some views are shared along the way.
My views are on the pod but the short version: It provided some much needed disruption but the approach was flawed from day 1.
Where do you land? Was LIV good for golf, and can LIV 2.0 work?

It was an honour to deliver the keynote at this years @sportaccord Forum in Lausanne.
I talked about some of the changes, challenges and opportunities facing sports - through a federation lens.
Hearing from Kirsty Coventry and a host of other sports leaders about how they are seeing the sports environment was also valuable as I could take those conversations and compare them with what I'm hearing from the wider industry.
Hint: There's some synergies but also some pretty major differences.
The forum was a true who's who of the Olympic and International federation landscape, and we at @SportsPro were thrilled to have supported SportAccord on its content planning and execution in and around the event.
Needless to say there's a lot of challenges to tackle and it reinforces the value of an organisation like SportAccord in helping ensure IFs are staying better connected - in more ways than one.
A big congratulations to Kelly Fairweather and the team for bringing this altogether. #sportaccord #sportaccordforum
There was robots dancing, vibe coding, tech demos aplenty, and presentations that were over my head yet learned so much from at the same time.
What a fun and brain-busting couple of days at this year's SportsPro AI + Tech summit.
The part of the industry has come a long way the past 12 months!
And perhaps the best indicator that sports understands this is that we had a massive jump in rights owners in attendance.
Thanks to Ian Botts for a great chat on and off stage. What they're doing at @Fanatics around AI and tech is so impressive, and his insights into the application of it was something many in sports needs to listen to. A shout-out to all the attendees and speakers who joined us, and our incredible sponsors -
@nvidia @lenovo @nicoyahealth @greenfly
and @tata_comm who helped us take the event to the next level. And a massive well done to the entire SportsPro team! Next up @sportspro

Much of the sports #streaming world get excited about the idea of betting integration into the live sports experience. DAZN were one of the first movers in this space, alongside ESPN and Fubo, to name a few.
They launched DAZN Bet and positioned it publicly as a huge needle mover for the platform's commercial performance, not to mention fan engagement. But like many others, the strategy fell short of expectation.
Being the first mover like DAZN has benefits, but it also comes with a lot of bumps along the way.
Hear our review on DAZN's journey to date on the latest StreamTime Sports Podcast:

When Netflix reported in an earnings call they'd lost subscribers for the first time, the entire media industry had billions of value shaved off its stock price within a matter of minutes.
And with that, the entire industry went into damage control - shifting its focus from scaling at all costs, to the race to profitability. The impact to companies like DAZN were massive - and set their plans to IPO back years.
Check out the full breakdown on DAZN's journey - available on the StreamTime Sports Podcast.
Available on all good podcast platforms.
Few companies have generated as many headlines, sparked as much debate, or attracted as much attention in sports media as DAZN.
This week's StreamTime Sports episode traces the complete DAZN story, from its roots in Perform Group and initial launch across Europe and Japan, through its billion-dollar betting on sports rights, the challenges of COVID, its pull out of France, and its shift towards from case scale at all costs, to profitability at all costs.
We explore the key decisions, acquisitions and personalities that shaped the company, including Len Blavatnik, Simon Denyer, John Skipper, Shay Segev, and many more, before examining what DAZN has become today and what its future could look like.
This was a fun one to record, I hope it's a fun one to listen to!

The #FIFAWC wasn't just an huge success for the federation, it was also a huge milestone for the US's largest independent sports network. Can you guess who I'm referring to? Here's some numbers for context:
→ 200+ podcasts produced across all key channels
→ Spotify listenership up 300%
→ Streams up ~500%
→ 18-24 year old listenership up 500%
→ #1 media outlet for engagement-per-follower across the entire tournament (26.4 engagements/follower — beating pretty much every other outlet covering it)
And they're not slowing down. This month they streamed live football for the first time ever (Spurs v Hoffenheim), reaching 10,000 concurrent viewers in the process.
If you haven't guessed who it is yet, it's the @MenInBlazers Media Network, and I sat down with their Co-founder (not to mention host!) Roger Bennett.
We covered:
🔹 The MiB business model and revenue flywheel
🔹 The state of football fandom in the US, and how it compares globally
🔹 the MLS vs EPL fan dynamic
🔹 The MiB journey from a 2011 podcast to a full media network
If you've ever heard Roger speak, you know he's entertaining and insightful - so check it out on any of the links below:
