🚨DIGITAL ID Whack-A-Mole continues...a new "screen time" bill in Congress is being sold as a simple tool to help parents manage kids' devices. And...it's bi-par-ti-san 👏👏👏
The Tracking Online Time and Limits Screen Time Act (TOTAL Screen Time Act) creates the first federal standard for cross-device parental controls with major data collection and surveillance implications.
The bill would order the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a "voluntary" (always starts as voluntary...remember Real ID? Now you can't fly without it.) technical standard for:
➡️setting screen time limits
➡️enforcing those limits
➡️syncing those limits across ALL devices (phones, laptops, tablets, game consoles, etc).
This is the federal government stepping directly into device-level control. 🧵

If people did not know, KOSA senate version has an age verification study for OS age verification in section 107 of the bill. So age verification would not only be for websites, they still want to push to OS level.

So they're forcing in gutting parts of Section 230 into a must pass spending bill - the NDAA. This is how the Tiktok ban passed too, btw.
