We often give ppl with cancer expensive surgery in order to give them a few more months, yet the Alzheimers drug that gives ppl 18 months extra good functioning is not seen as "cost effective". Discrimination.

David Cameron blathered on for 6 years about "fixing the foundations" but Rachel Reeves just got on & actually did it in 2.

Maybe "Rachel from accounts" actually knew what she was doing.
Fastest rate of UK economic growth for almost four years at 2.1% YoY and a sprightly 0.7% QoQ to the end of August. Construction still firmly in the doldrums (-1.8% YoY) but services, manufacturing, investment & trade all showing decent Q3 momentum.

I do feel the govt needs to keep being as supportive to Ukraine as possible. They are like we were during WW2. We can't just leave them to it or shy away. Since the war started each PM that came in was right by their side. This needs to continue.

We will be introducing bipartisan legislation to block any and all purchases of Russian oil. It will be called the β€œRonald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act.” It will be forced to the Floor via discharge and it will pass overwhelmingly. #PeaceThroughStrength

Stage one of the Islamist assault on the Green Party is now complete. Let’s see how long Polanski lasts before they come for the leadership. As has been warned a million times, these Islamic extremists were never going to stop until a policy of dismantling the Jewish state (the ultimate force against Islamism) became party policy. The Islamists will happily appease trans demands and whatever other woke inconvenience stood in their way to get this over the line. It also seems as though they take advantage of mentally ill and vulnerable non-Muslims looking for a sense of cause and belonging. This is a worrying development for anyone who cares about preserving British and Western culture. These people absolutely won’t stop at the Greens…

If the Greens win in Holborn & St Pancras after the events of today then we are in dark times indeed.

Ed Davey now just looks like a hypocrite after making improving care his big thing.
πŸ’₯NEW: A Lib Dem row is erupting over Ed Davey's defence of the triple lock In public, Tom Gordon has called on the party's leader to 'rethink'. In private, one frontbencher says 'we are at risk of looking churlish about the fact Labour is doing things we've called for' Another tells @SamCoatesSky that 'the majority' in the parliamentary party back Burnham's proposal⬇️

I'm happy that the public back getting rid of the state pension triple lock to fund social care. I suppose the difference between this & the winter fuel allowance cut is that there is a clear use for the saved money being set out.

& stopping a theoretical increase that may or may not have happened is psychologically easier to deal with than stopping a tangible benefit that has previously been received for multiple years.

With the Triple Lock reform set out accurately and the savings hypothecated to a National Care Service, a clear majority back it: 64% support it and 15% oppose: net +49. Support outnumbers opposition in every age group, including those most affected: -> 55-64: 61% support, 16% oppose -> 65+: 55% support, 27% oppose 5/6

Absolutely love the National Care Service idea and love how it will be funded. Absolutely essential that it happens & that it is paid for fairly.

A new National Care Service. Greater public control of water, energy, and housing. A National Commission on Electoral Reform. Strengthening our relationship with Europe. Reforming the education and welfare system. Today I set out a different path for Britain. You may disagree with some or all of what I have said today. But I have given you what you often say is missing from politics. Honesty, ideas and a clear direction for the country we all love. If you agree with enough of what I have said, get behind this plan. And get behind each other. It's time to draw a line. To move beyond a decade of drift and division. To bring a spirit of unity and positivity back to our country. To unlock the working-class aspiration that is still there in every postcode. To hope again.
