"Dark Lord" Is in Custody
The man who tortured cats on camera as "Dark Lord" is in police custody in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, and his name is Luo Fanghong. We announced it on Instagram this week together with the Chinese activists and partner organizations, Feline Guardians among them, who spent years building the case against him. This is the full account of the case, and it includes a correction to our victims page.
Undercover volunteers first documented him in March 2024. His videos were made in a room he had set up for the purpose, with cats caged or tied down in front of a running camera while he worked through his equipment on them, and the footage went out to the chat groups where people trade this material. Our own memorials for his victims record crossbow bolts, spring-loaded traps, electrocution, hot mustard forced down a kitten's throat, a microwave, a washing machine, and a chainsaw. Every one of those memorials was written by a volunteer who sat through the video.
When Luo started posting, he called himself Peng Xiang. That name already belonged to another user who had been posting similar videos, with the same politically charged jabs at China's national leaders, and the two were close enough that volunteers, us included, treated them as one person. According to the activists who worked the case, the original Peng Xiang went quiet right around the time Luo picked up the name, which kept the confusion going for more than two years, and then he resurfaced in August of this year.
The original Peng Xiang is the one who killed Fireball, the two-month-old kitten on our home page, who some of you know as Miiko. That person has not been identified. Luo was borrowing an identity that belonged to someone else, and his arrest does nothing for the cats the other man killed, so the search for Fireball's killer is still open.

From Elena Yushenko:
"What increasingly shocks me is not human cruelty itself, but how deeply it has become ingrained in our world. We have built a society in which the suffering of millions of living beings has become part of everyday life, business, traditions, and entertainment.
Humanity has learned to justify almost anything. Killing - when it brings profit. Torture - when it serves someone's interests. Violence - when it is disguised as tradition. Even outright sadism finds its own audience.
But what frightens me most is the sheer scale of human indifference. Those who genuinely try to stand against this cruelty are tragically few compared to those who remain silent, make excuses, or simply choose not to think about it.
And I find myself asking more and more often: How far must humanity go before it finally understands that intelligence, power, and physical superiority do not give us the moral right to turn the lives of all other beings on this planet into endless suffering?"

”This scum who sexually assaulted the mother cat has been found, all the kittens are gone, but there’s no law to punish it!”
Look at him fighting back vehemently for his right to rape cats. How do people get this deranged? 🤦♂️

What a shocking awful thing to do. Man has already destroyed so much of Mother Nature’s creations that there’s barely any left.
The sky was once full of flocks of birds but where are they now and cats were everywhere but where are they now.
What a waste! That's #AnimalCruelty ⬇️
America has our own Big Cats and people kill them for fun. Population Control is unnecessary and a lie.

Allow me to introduce Goldenrod, a plant with massive ecological benefits, but that went out of fashion because it became too successful, and us stupid humans only prize the elusive, the fragile, the hard to cultivate.
There was a time when Goldenrod was so widespread that it could be seen growing on every roadside.
But because of this, British gardeners stopped buying it, and its reputation shifted from a prized garden ornamental to a common "weed".
But Goldenrod is a wildlife powerhouse.
Late-Season Lifeline: It blooms from August to October, offering a vital food source when most other summer flowers have died back.
Pollinator Magnet: The bright yellow flowers are packed with highly accessible nectar and pollen for bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and beetles.
Specialist Support: It provides crucial energy for queen bumblebees preparing for winter hibernation and migratory butterflies like the Red Admiral.
Bird Feeding Stations: In winter, the dried seed heads provide nutritious oil-rich seeds for finches and other small garden birds.
Overwintering Shelter: The sturdy, hollow stems offer excellent winter protection for beneficial insects, if left standing until spring.
And it looks lovely!🥰
This wonderful plant deserves a comeback.
It's tough and adaptable, loves the sun, thrives on neglect, and tolerates dry spells well.
Why not see if you can spare a little sunny spot for one?
Growing back nature's larder, one plant at a time.❤️🩹

In late June 2026, three celebrities from Greater China spoke out about a case in Jieyang, Guangdong, in which a mother dog and her newborn puppies were brutally killed by minors.
🇭🇰 Eddie Yuen (actor): two statements calling for a swift Animal Protection Law and stricter penalties.
🇭🇰 Ma Chun Wai (former actor, now listed-company co-CEO): called for stronger legislation.
🇨🇳 Du Jiang (mainland actor): posted at least 3 times condemning the killings — each post taken down, most recently his Douyin homepage was wiped.
China has neither a national Animal Protection Law nor an Anti-Cruelty Law, and the perpetrators — under the criminal responsibility age — face no legal consequence. Public figures speaking up are being met with platform-level suppression, not policy response.
These four children did not become like this overnight. They grew up in a system where there is no law prohibiting animal cruelty and no effective legal deterrent for juvenile offenders. This is not simply a loophole in the law—it is a structural failure of the system itself. Unless that changes, no matter how many public statements are made, or how many are deleted, sending juvenile offenders to vocational school will remain the upper limit of the response.

Isn't this so lovely to see?
The difference providing water makes.
This dear little family were once lacklustre and listless, just sitting around look thin and drained.
Just a bucket of water and they are puppies again, playing and having fun, as all fox cubs should.🥰
It may be cooler but it's still so dry. Please put out water for our struggling wildlife.
