Very excited to have been apart of this amazing opportunity!!
Grew up watching a lot of National Geographic documentaries about severe weather, never even thinking I’d be apart of it.
Truly a dream come true to be included, especially alongside people like Freddy McKinney!
Went and watched episode 8 of Megastorm since they interviewed my good friend @Sawyer_WX. Fuck them for making me tear up at work lol but what a great documentary about that night and even the Hawley tornado
Many people are still without power and/or water in the areas Hurricane Isaias affected. Please consider donating to humanitarian efforts to support those in need of a hot shower, a good meal, or a shoulder to lean on. redcross.org/donate/dr/hurri…

who needs an anemometer when you’ve got one of these? @sigtor_195 @fallmob

SATURDAY and SUNDAY, October 10-11 could feature tornado activity across Alabama, Florida and Georgia. An isolated significant tornado is possible.
This is in association with a landfalling tropical system that will earn the name "Isaias." The system's will probably come ashore somewhere between New Orleans and Apalachicola.
As the system makes landfall, dry air will swirl in on its back side. That will weaken the tropical storm/hurricane, BUT make a recipe favorable for tornadoes.
As dry air clashes with moist, tropical air, we'll probably get one or more bands of thunderstorms on the east (right) side of the system. Those thunderstorms will tap into the remnant storm's rotating wind field and acquire rotation themselves.
At least a very isolated tornado is possible as far north as eastern Tennessee or western parts of the Carolinas. The greatest risk of an isolated significant tornado or two is between Pensacola, Tallahassee and Jacksonville.
This forecast is made both based on forecaster intuition and deterministic/machine learning models. StormNet, the most accurate of any severe weather-focused machine learning model, is already highlighting this region.
The threat could begin Friday night and last into Sunday, shifting from the Gulf Coast northward.
The European model in particular is highlighting an overlap of shear (changing winds with height) and instability (thunderstorm fuel). That juiced-up air mass will allow thunderstorms to blossom vertically into an environment that will twist them counterclockwise.
For now, remain abreast of the evolving forecast.

2pm: A tropical depression is likely to form by tonight over the SW Gulf, with strengthening expected as it approaches the Gulf Coast. While there’s a risk for tropical rains & breezy winds this weekend for N. AL and S.M TN, it is too early to pinpoint and finalize impacts #HUNwx
We will likely have chasers on this storm as it makes landfall this weekend. Stay tuned!
It's still early, but concern is growing over the possibility of tropical development in the Gulf this week...here's the latest from AEMA Meteorologist Jim Stefkovich:

⭐️CHASER SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY - HAYDEN ⭐️
Another Sunday, another SparkService storm chaser spotlight post! Our team member for this week is none other than Hayden Lester!
Hayden is 24 years old, and he currently lives in Kaiserslautern, Germany, as a full time employee for the United States’ Space Force. However, he says the great state of Texas will always be his home, regardless of wherever his feet are currently planted.
He’s been casually storm chasing since 2019, but he started getting serious about it back in 2022. Not long after, in 2023, he decided to join us at SparkService. This happened specifically after the events of the Rolling Fork EF4 took place. He says his favorite thing about being a part of SparkService is that most of his closest friends are united together by a common goal. “It honestly makes it easier to maintain those friendships while overseas,” he adds. Despite being separated by distance, Hayden is an important part of our team, and usually close by (through messaging or calling) when he’s needed. Of course, he chases when he can, whether it be in Europe or back at home, and when he isn’t actively chasing, he is a voice of encouragement and a sounding board for whatever ideas or situations come our way.
He is most proud of his Hyannis, NE storm chase, on April 27, 2025. He forecasted this chase by himself, and was successful. In fact, people tried to persuade him to go to Kansas instead, where they thought conditions looked more favorable for storm development. But alas, Hayden stuck to his original forecast, and it paid off big time. A nice storm ended up firing off ~4 miles from Hayden’s target. He was able to see the tornado it produced, the most photogenic tornado of the day. “It was my most flawlessly executed chase,” he recalls.
Hayden says he “spawned into existence with a special interest in weather.” On that note, he goes on to say he’s “undiagnosed, but something ain’t right. If you know, you know.” He took the leap into chasing as he got older, and thus had more freedom to do whatever he pleased. Now he has the freedom to take a month off every year to dedicate entirely to storm chasing.
A fun fact about Hayden is that he plays the drums! (Maybe Hayden and Malachi should get together and make a SparkService, very percussion heavy, band! 👀) Hayden is actually currently in the process of trying to make some metal music with a few of his military friends. “The album will hopefully be out within the next decade,” he jokes. Also, Hayden is a talented photographer. You can catch some of his work on his socials, like Instagram and Facebook.
Hayden’s advice for new chasers would be to always use the bathroom before getting locked into a chase. That way, you don’t have a bathroom emergency and a tornado emergency happening simultaneously.
Lastly, he would like to add that Josh calls him at 2 AM frequently to tell him stuff that (1) he already knew, and (2) are very textable things. We all thought this was funny, because it’s very true of a statement. Joshua definitely loves a good phone call, however, sometimes, this meeting could have definitely been an email.
Hayden, we appreciate your listening ear and your way of communicating, encouraging, and helping us solve problems, even though proximity is not on our side. You are a soul part of our team, and we are so thankful for you and your many talents!
⭐️CHASER SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY - MALACHI ⭐️
Welcome back to our Sunday spotlight series! This week we are focusing on the man, the myth, and the legend himself: Malachi Phillips! @sigtor_195
Malachi is our resident chill guy and one of our talented photography and media professionals, but he is also such a hoot and a fun person to be around. He works hard, but he plays harder!
Malachi is 22, and he is a full time cybersecurity major in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He’s been storm chasing for almost 4 years, spending 3 of those years with SparkService. He says his favorite thing about SparkService is finding “the community of friends involved with the group.” There’s so much community and friendship to be found within the group.
Malachi is proud of every one of his storm chases, regardless of if he saw a tornado during them or not. Every chase allows him to hang out with his friends and have fun goofing off with them, in his words. It’s also interesting and sometimes rewarding, he notes, to see the real life implications of forecasting, and what your forecast on paper can manifest into, right in front of your eyes.
He got into storm chasing by starting with forecasting. He forecasted a particular event, and then he decided he wanted to see if his forecast would verify in real time, out in the field. And so, he went! The rest is history.
A fun fact about Malachi is that he is a percussionist!
His advice for new chasers is to “find a less expensive hobby.” This is honestly such a fair point. It can be so fun, but it gets easy for expenses to rack up. If your heart is in it, your wallet will be too.
Thank you, Malachi, for being an integral part of the group, and allowing us to learn from you and have fun with you!

August 10 evening update: NHC is still watching 3 disturbances over the basin. The easternmost system is likely to become a tropical depression during the latter portion of the week. Remember every outlook is at hurricanes.gov

OBSERVED TORNADO WARNING south of Faith, South Dakota!
Seek shelter if you are in this warning!
We have a few disturbances to keep an eye on. The Atlantic has woken up a bit! We will see what these areas have in store for us as we keep an eye on information from the National Hurricane Center.
Right now, it looks like only one out of the three has a medium likely chance to develop into a tropical or subtropical cyclone in the next couple of days. The other two are not organizing as rapidly, if at all.

⭐️CHASER SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY - JOSHUA⭐️
This is another very special spotlight Sunday because we are celebrating our second owner and founder, sitting next to Daton in leadership. This week, we are shining our spotlight on Joshua Thomas! @fallmob
Josh is 24 years old, and he lives in Meridian, Mississippi, where he works in retail management full time.
He’s been storm chasing for 4 years, helping Daton create SparkService shortly after his start. Josh considers Daton his best friend, and they are definitely partners in crime. There’s never a boring moment when those two get together. Josh says what he enjoys most about being involved with SparkService is “being with other people who enjoy the same hobby as me.”
Josh is most proud of his El Dorado, Oklahoma chase back in 2024. It was a low risk, but high reward set up, and the team forecasted and positioned themselves very well that day.
He’s been interested in storm chasing since he was young. “I was a kid with ADHD who watched too much of the Weather Channel,” he reminisces. This passion for weather has only increased with his age. He’s now so knowledgeable that he enjoys teaching others about weather, ranging from people in his own social circle, to helping set up opportunities to speak at schools and teach children about weather phenomena, and how to stay safe when the skies get dangerous.
Joshua also loves to make music. When he has downtime, he is either forecasting or producing a new tune. There’s not much in between, other than perhaps video gaming. You can find his music on whatever platform you use to listen by typing in his stage name, Fallmob. He’s currently working on an album that will hopefully be revealed to us soon!
A fun fact about Joshua is that he is dating another chaser within SparkService, and storm chasing is what brought them together. They have been in a relationship for nearly a year and a half.
Josh’s advice for new chasers is to be careful with light bars on your vehicle. They can be useful and cool, but don’t let them run 24/7.
When asked if there’s anything else he would like to add, he said simply, “cheesecake.” So true.
