Here is the full 3D interactive animation showing the first of the coming solar storms. Launched during the X1.1-flare on June 30, this storm uses the NASA/M2M fit, coronagraph imagery from GOES, SOHO, & STEREO-A (shown below). This takes about a minute to load: shorturl.at/NC2Qa

Absolutely stunning footage of last night’s geomagnetic storm as seen from the ISS.
Russian cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov said it was like flying straight through them.
The expected geomagnetic storm has arrived at G4/Severe conditions. The geomagnetic storm is expected to continue throughout tomorrow (Tuesday, 20 January) with G1 to G3 conditions and a possibility of further G4/Severe storm levels.

A whole train of big #solarstorms are on their way, along with some smaller storms hitting now, and some fast solar wind! It is an #aurora photographers dream starting now and lasting at least through the weekend. Right now, the biggest of the storms should hit late Thursday or early Friday morning and is well-represented in NOAA's prediction model. You can also get a 3D view of the coming solar storm in my earlier post. G3 to G4 storm levels are possible by Friday.

Although low confidence modeling of the CME related to yesterday's X5 flare event determined the possibility of shock influences near Earth early as 2 Jan. A minor geomagnetic storm watch valid 2 Jan is in place. swpc.noaa.gov/products/auror… for the Aurora-30 Minute Forecast model.
