Innovation Beyond Earth: Exploring Space Tech with Wil Glaser youtube.com/live/J1qbCkwVZ-8… via @YouTube
Space-Tech has made some fantastic new friends. Get ready, world; @VayaSpace is on the way!
In space, there are currently no valuable resources that can be mined and sold on Earth. This needs to change. - @CJHandmer
Starlink alone has 5,671 satellites in space (not all in destination orbits), so it is 10 times the size of all GEO satellites combined and 100 times the size of the largest GEO operators.
On Wednesday morning, a satellite belonging to the European Space Agency is predicted to reenter the Earth's atmosphere and largely burn up.
U.S. Space Force Col. Nick Hague will serve as the pilot on NASA’s Space X Crew-9 mission aboard the Dragon spacecraft that will take him and his crewmates to the International Space Station.
Why We Often Say “Space is Hard” 🚀
The phrase “Space is hard” succinctly encapsulates the immense challenges of space exploration. It reflects the intricate complexity, hostile environment, vast isolation, and the unknowns that come with venturing beyond Earth.
1.Technical Complexity: The precision engineering required for spacecraft and equipment is unparalleled. Even minor errors can lead to major consequences, highlighting the need for flawless design and execution.
2.Harsh Environment: Space’s hostile environment, with its radiation, extreme temperatures, and debris, like the asteroid field depicted in the image, demands constant vigilance and exceptional technological solutions.
3.Vastness and Isolation: The immense distance from Earth poses significant challenges in communication and impacts the psychological well-being of astronauts. The vastness and isolation of space, illustrated by distant planets and stars, add to these challenges.
4.Unknowns and Discoveries: Every mission is a venture into the unknown, pushing human knowledge and capabilities to new frontiers. This journey is as perilous as it is exhilarating.
The allure of space, with its beauty and mysteries, continues to inspire and drive our quest for exploration, despite the formidable challenges
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Training for Spacewalk Efficiency and Safety
Objective: Enhance astronaut performance and safety during extravehicular activities (EVAs).
Method: Implementing a Behavioral Skills Training (BST) program focused on EVA tasks.
1.Instruction: Astronauts receive comprehensive instructions on EVA protocols, including a step-by-step task checklist.
2.Modeling: Experienced astronauts or simulations demonstrate the tasks, emphasizing efficient movement in microgravity and emergency protocols.
3.Rehearsal: Trainees practice the EVA tasks in an underwater simulation tank, replicating the microgravity of space.
4.Feedback: Immediate feedback is provided post-rehearsal. Correct actions are positively reinforced, while mistakes are constructively reviewed.
5.Generalization: Skills are honed in varying simulations, progressing to practice sessions in the ISS’s Quest airlock, ensuring adaptability to different spacewalk scenarios.
6.Data Collection: Detailed performance data, including task completion times and physiological responses, are meticulously recorded.
7.Modification: The training program is dynamically adjusted based on data analysis, ensuring continuous improvement and mastery of EVA tasks.
This structured ABA approach ensures astronauts are not only adept at performing essential maintenance and experiments during spacewalks but are also equipped to do so with maximum safety and efficiency.
🪖 DoD’s National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS) Release
•Main Goal: The Department of Defense (DoD) aims to transform its defense industrial base to become more robust, resilient, and dynamic, ready to meet future challenges.
1.Resilient Supply Chains & Workforce Readiness 🛠️:
•The NDIS emphasizes the need for strong, reliable supply chains and a workforce skilled enough to handle near-peer conflicts and future defense needs.
•It involves enhancing the capacity to produce critical systems and equipment rapidly and at scale.
2.Flexible Acquisition & Economic Deterrence 💡:
•The strategy promotes more adaptable acquisition processes.
•It focuses on strengthening economic deterrence, which is critical for maintaining national security.
3.Collaboration with Industry and Allies 🤝:
•NDIS stresses the importance of public-private partnerships.
•Collaboration with international allies is also highlighted, recognizing that a collective effort is necessary for a modernized defense ecosystem.
4.Alignment with National Defense Strategy 🌍:
•The strategy is closely aligned with the broader National Defense Strategy.
•It focuses on integrated deterrence and underscores the interconnectedness of economic and national security.
5.Implementation Plan 🔍:
•While the full implementation plan of the NDIS is classified, an unclassified summary will be published.
•This summary will provide insights into the strategic vision and near-term actions planned.
🔗 The release of the NDIS marks a significant step in enhancing the U.S. defense industrial base, ensuring it’s equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century and support the nation’s military and economic strength.
