It was great to spend some time at ERAU with the Space Technologies Lab EagleCam team this week. Watching college students - my age or even younger - work on payload operations on the Moon was quite the humbling & unique experience. I can’t wait to see what this team does next!

The images included here are the closest observations of any spaceflight mission to the south pole region of the Moon. Odysseus is quite the photographer, capturing this image approximately 30 meters above the lunar surface while his main engine throttled down more than 24,000 mph. Another day of exploration on the south pole region of the Moon. (27FEB2024 0835 CST)

Flight Controllers continue to communicate with Odysseus. This morning, Odysseus efficiently sent payload science data and imagery in furtherance of the Company’s mission objectives. Flight controllers are working on final determination of battery life on the lander, which may continue up to an additional 10-20 hours. 🧵(27FEB2024 0848 CST)

We have a picture from Odysseus!! BUT before it landed... the hope is that the "EagleCam" can be deployed to catch images of the lander.

On Feb. 22, 2024, Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus lunar lander captures a wide field of view image of Schomberger crater on the Moon approximately 125 miles (200 km) uprange from the intended landing site, at approximately about 6 miles (10 km) altitude.

20/ Altemus, pointing to the panel where EagleCam is located, notes that they still plan to eject it and allow it to capture images of the lander on the surface.
Says as part of the NDL patch, they had to shut off the EagleCam prior to its planned ejection on descent.

What I’m most excited to see during today’s Intuitive Machines moon landing are the photos sent back from Embry-Riddle’s EagleCam.
As the lander nears the Moon‘s surface, EagleCam will separate from the lander and capture the first-ever third person views of the spacecraft as it touched down.

After landing on the Moon, Nova-C will serve as a power and data hub for all payloads. Every IM-1 payload is designed to remain attached to the lander, with the exception of @EmbryRiddle EagleCam which will be ejected before landing in order to capture the descent from a third party perspective.
