I really understood the impact of open-source/open-weight models when we were having beers with colleagues at a pub in London. The bartender started chatting with us about AI and mentioned that he had deployed a local model using DeepSeek at home. I guess open-source models have genuinely made AI a bit more interesting in a way, and also achieved what might call technological democratization.
